Random? - when was your LO confirmed head down?

Avery was breech last time so she was never head down. They had me schedule my c/s at 32 weeks because she was breech and I have BCU, so there was little chance of her turning.  This time I might  VBAC if baby is head down, but I'm not sure when to expect this to happen.  (Obviously I have time!)

I'm just wondering at what point babies generally turn (for good) head down.

  • I don't remember exactly - he was head down pretty early on though.  However I do know that they can turn very late in the game both on their own and with interventions too.

Yes, in a normal uterus.  The problem is I have a bicornuate uterus so baby is usually in one horn with less room to move.  So the chances of flipping after a certain point are pretty low.  Also, any external manipulation can be very dangerous with BCU so it's not advised. I'm just hoping for this LO to flip early and stay like that!

  • Mason never turned either. My cs was scheduled at 39 weeks. My OB said that when they did the final ultrasound at the hospital if he had finally turned it was then my choice to go on with the cs or let it happen naturally.

I would say to go for it if you can.

Ooooh, OK, yeah, I see the concern!  I sure hope your LO flips for you!

  • I have a bicornuate uterus as well (it's slight though, however).  Ella laid oblique until birth. At my last apt. (39 weeks), she was still oblique and they had discussed the different options that may take place at delivery if she didn't move. However, when I deliverd two days later, she was head down. It can happen! :)  Good luck, I really hope baby turns for you for a safe and healthy delivery!

  • With both pregnancies baby was breech at my a/s but confirmed head down at my 32 week u/s. I'm not sure at what point they flipped. Hopefully your LO will turn for you :)

  • I can't exactly remember but I feel like it was pretty early on- maybe 32-33 weeks? I think I remember reading in a book when most babies turn but I can't remember what it said. Maybe try google? Oh and please, please share your VBAC story if you get to do it! I'm hoping to with LO #2. Good luck!!
  • This is horrible but I don't remember exactly! I'm pretty sure my doctor didn't check me until I was 37 weeks and DS was head down.

    TFAS since May 2013
8/14 - Bloodwork showed heterozygous MTHFR gene mutation and elevated AMH (but no cysts)
9/14 - HSG, Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy showed tubes clear, but found and removed Endometriosis, scar tissue and 2 small benign masses on my tubes.
11/14 - Daily ultrasounds confirmed that my follicles are not releasing the egg and every other day blood draws showed very low progesterone... DH's SA was near perfect
12/14 - moving onto meds!!! Hold up!!!  Surprise BFP after only taking the progesterone!  Now what do I do with all of the other meds we already paid for?!  Due at the end of August 2015 Beta#1- 4434 @ 22DPO  Beta#2 - 7335 @ 25DPO Beta #3 - 14429  @ 28DPO
  • I don't remember when but I think around 32w but then a few weeks later she'd fliped again and stayed head up the rest of the time :(

  • It was either at 24 or 28 weeks, and they said by then she was too big to flip back up.

DD was Transverse for quite some time, and it was obvious at our 33 wk 3 day elective u/s appt.... Dr checked at 35(?) weeks and baby was head down, I had no idea when she flipped.

  • LO was head down at my 32 week appt. He stayed head down for the rest of the pregnancy though he could have moved if he wanted.

  • Thanks for the responses!  It sounds like I have a few more weeks for baby to turn. There are a lot of factors that will go into my ability to VBAC but this is one of the bigger ones.  I know he can always flip back but if he does end up head down, the lack of space may prevent him from being able to turn.  I'll keep you updated!

  • J was head down at 27 weeks and turned at 35 so we did a C. M is head down now (31 weeks) but we'll prob be a repeat C...

  • I can't remember exactly. I know they kept checking at every appt from 30 weeks on. My LO was sunny side up the entire time and never switched (so I had terrible back labor and she was semi stuck in my pelvis). Hoping for a "correct" baby this time! Tongue Tied

  • You've already gotten a lot of replies but I wanted to add mine because my OB refused to even make a guess before my first internal check at week 36. She said that baby can still move around quite a bit up until 34w. But that's with a "normal" ute so it might be earlier for you. This time around, the u/s tech told me baby is head down at my u/s 2 weeks ago (around 22w) like s/he is supposedly going to stay that way for the rest of the time but with all the crazy rolls and kicks and punches I've been feeling, I'm really skeptical of that.

Same here.  Just got confirmed the baby is finally head down at my 30-week appt this week.  Though, when I asked the ultrasound tech if baby has room to flip again, she said it's possible...

I hope your baby is able to flip!
