Postpartum Depression

Almost 9 months post-partum, anxiety?

Hi all,

Lately, I've been experiencing a lot of tingling in my fingers, hands and other random places on my body. My son is almost 9 months old and we are still nursing. I went and saw a doctor right away, and he told me that he thought it was most likely due to nursing and hormone levels, etc. He made the mistake of saying "Well, I'm not really concerned that it is MS..." Holy crap. MS? That, of course, made my head spin and I was Googling symptoms non-stop and now I'm 100% convinced I have MS. Okay, that's a little extreme, but seriously. Has anyone else experienced these kind of obsessive thoughts and/or anxiety about their own health? The doctor didn't really want to test me for anything, but now that a month has gone by and I've still got the tinglies, I've requested the testing. I will most likely be getting a thyroid test, blood test and MRI. I'm sure the doctor thinks I am nuts.

I can't even think about anything else or focus on work. Is this a type of PPD? Also, it turns out (from my extensive research), these types of tingles could be related to anxiety.. Has anyone else has gone through this?

 Thanks for the response.

  • I struggled both pregnancies with what I like to call medical anxiety...to the point like you said where it consumed me...made my bp spike too.   The tingling could definitely be a symptom of anxiety...anxiety can do some crazy things to your body.

  • Most deffinetely the tingly can be anxiety.  I had anxiety/depression from a hormonal imbalance before being pregnant and I clearly remember the tingly in my arms, hands and legs. It was totally strange! It may help you feel better getting tested anyways, just to calm your fears, but the only way i started feeling better was figuring out what was causing the anxiety (Birth control) and medication.  Best of luck to you, and try and stay calm and Stop googling! Trust your Drs and not the internet because WebMD only shows you the worst cases.

  • Stay off google #1, it only makes us worse! Remember that during times of stress and anxiety, your blood rushes to your heart during the "fight or flight" response. This is why we get tingly hands, feet and head and get lightheaded. It happens to me everytime I get even the slightest bit nervous. What I find helps when I get tingly is to drink plenty of water, lie down with my knees bent and take about 10 abdominal breaths.  Meditation helps a lot at night if you are able to do it. Read more about what happens during an anxiety attack and less about ms. What you find should make you feel better. Good luck!
