Baby Showers

Baby shower date

Is it a good idea to have my baby shower the sunday of labor day weekend? I have some guests coming from out of town and figured it would be easier considering they would have the following monday off, but I know people make plans for that weekend. I'm due at the end of October so I could put it off until the following sunday.

Just wanted to get other people's input!

Re: Baby shower date

  • People tend to have other plans on holidays.  If you do it on labor day weekend, maybe a brunch shower Saturday morning so that everyone will have the rest of their weekend ahead of them.

  • Sunday of Labor Day weekend is a really bad choice, IMO.
  • If you want most people to attend I would move it to another weekend.

  • My MIL is throwing me a shower for her side of the family that Sunday. She spoke w/ most of her family members beforehand when trying to pick a date, and the general consensus is everyone will be able to come to town that weekend, so it worked out great. There will be many out of state guests there who otherwise might not have been able to come. She is having a cookout and making it a big co-ed celebration, so there will be lots of fun to be had. So I guess it depends on your guests and other circumstances. Generally, I think it would be a pretty inconvenient time for most people.

This is smart. I would agree that in most situations it would be very inconvenient, but if you know the situation of your guests, it actually might work out best.

That being said, I love the idea of a Saturday morning brunch shower.

  • I would not attend a shower that day.  H and I always plan some sort of fun, long weekend trip (as MANY others do) and I wouldn't give up tradition for a shower.

  • If you happen to know that a lot of your friends will be around - and willing to take time out of their holiday weekend - go for it.  Personally, I'm not a fan of holiday weekend events.
  • Thanks everyone! I'm so used to working retail and having no such luxury as to take weekends off like that. I'm trying to be considerate of those around me, so it's now going to be the following Sunday.

     Thanks again for the input.

  • In my circle, this would be a horrible idea.  Personally, we are almost always out of town for holiday weekends and unless you were my BFF, I'd send a gift and not attend.

If you feel you must have it that weekend, I would recommend doing it early Saturday (10 or 11) so that those that are kind enough to attend will still have the majority of their weekend.
