My doctor asked me what?!

Today at my appointment he asked me if I was taking my prenatals because I looked really tired. Really doc?! Could it be becausei just got off work or that I'm PREGNANT?! Lol I thought that was funny. Oh, and he recommended I push my a/s back a week to be 21 weeks to get better measurements, ugh. I said no, I already took off.Anyone else with doctor stories?

Re: My doctor asked me what?!

  • Oh gosh, you asked for it.

Lucky for you, I'm freshly peeved because I JUST got off the phone with my clinic Wink

I've just been upset with them lately.

    a) They've ordered the wrong tests/didn't order blood tests THREE different times now. So instead of having blood drawn for everything all at once and only paying ONE time to have them stick me.. I've paid for much more than necessary. Yes, this is me being money hungry. Not the point though.

    b) they NEVER call back when they say. I'm guessing it might be this way across the board (maybe not.. maybe I'm just super unlucky) I understand that they're extremely busy and I'm not their only patient. But if my blood results come back on a Tuesday, then just call me on a Tuesday. It takes 30 seconds and it makes me feel like I'm being taken care of.

    c) I called and scheduled my 20 week ultrasound (at 10 weeks I might add.. I wanted to be prepared) with a specific doctor.. just called today to confirm and it turns out that I'm not scheduled with that doctor at all.

    I feel like crying.

Yikes.. sorry for the novel. But it was seriously fresh on my mind, lol

I have to say, as a Physician Assistant and having worked for MD's for many years, this is not always possible.  Because, the ordering provider has to sign off on the results before their assistant (a medical assistant or LPN usually) can call you and let you know what the results are. For instance, if your labs are drawn on Monday, the lab can usually fax a report by Wednesday and if the doctor is in, he/she will sign off on them, and if the MA has time, he/she will call you. If not, you might not get a call until the following morning (Thursday).  If your Doc is not in the office for a few days, it could take considerably longer.

    I'm sorry you've had such a rough time! :(

I've been so fortunate to have been blessed with an AMAZING doctor and an office staff that is surprisingly well organized, given its size.

  • Those are frustrating!   My mom pointed out that she was probably younger than me) and all I really get from her when I go in, is her asking if I have any questions, and that everything sounds fine with the heart beat, everything feels fine with the quick boob or baby position check, and then she asks me if I have any questions a few more times ... which I don't really have other than being unsure of the process with what to expect at each appointment.  She hasn't volunteered any recommendations though (thought they always did that).   ... I am starting to wonder if my doctor is nervous around me.

I had bleeding and cramping at 18 weeks - they told me to come in to be checked out.  The only person able to see me was a midwife that I haven't seen before.  They had me pee in a cup, then the MW took my history.  She pretty much brushed everything off, pulled out the doppler and said, ok, all is well.  She did no other exam, u/s etc.  I actually asked if she could do an internal to see if anything was dilating, and she looked at me like I was nuts - then told me that there is nothing to be done at 18 weeks anyway, so there was no point in doing the internal.  She did it anyway to make me feel better, but I was still annoyed!

And I didn't get to schedule my a/s until 16 weeks - when I went to make the appt, they told me they only do them on Wednesdays...and the one at 17 and 18 weeks were full.  I was on vacation last week (19 weeks) so the only option was this week - 20 weeks.  How can they only do a/s once a week?!?

This is a new office for me - we moved after DD was born, so I guess I am just getting used to a new way of doing things!

Could be your doc is relaxed and really has no worries about your pregnancy. (Just guessing that you have had a pretty healthy pregnancy so far, correct and disregard if not). If you have concerns about the process and what to expect at each appointment, ask at the previous. "So, when I come in next month, what can I expect?" Ask her to go through things with you. There is a lot of information and facts, she can't read your mind to know what you are concerned about, or that you are feeling like you need more guidance.

I feel ya! In response to your above points...

    a) My OB's office sent the NT scan results off WITHOUT MY INSURANCE INFORMATION, so the lab that processed the work sent me a notice telling me if I didn't fax them my insurance info, they would send me the bill. When I call my OB office to find out what happened, all they could tell me is that they "usually" sent the insurance info with the lab work and they don't know what happened, but that I should be sure and respond to the notice so I didn't end up with a bill..um..hello...I did that..but you should do YOUR job and also contact them since you should have done that to be begin with

    b) at least they call you eventually...mine has not called me back ONCE with ANY lab work since I started seeing their OBs (they didn't do this when I just saw the GYNs)...I chewed them out the last two times I went for this, and the last time I had to also chew them out b/c my high risk OB had sent an order over for some additional blood work to be added to what the regular OB would draw for the NT scan (to save me being stuck twice in 2 days) and the regular OB hadn't bothered to fax the results back to the hisk risk OB after A MONTH...and when I chew them out about it all, all they do is wait till i'm finished and then say "well lets see what we have" and open the chart..totally disregarding the fact that someone in their office is failing to do their jobs...
