I had a c-section 3 weeks ago and was wondering when it is safe to carry my baby in his car seat. The car seat weighs about 20 pounds and my baby weighs 9 pounds. When did everyone else start carrying their baby in their car seat?
I don't think I did much of anything for the first 2wks pp until my visit for him to check my incision. I went in to the maternity ward after I was home for 48hrs I think to make sure DS was gaining weight, other than that I don't recall even leaving the house but to walk around the block.
Around two weeks, but only short distances, like from my house to the car. I snapped the car seat into the stroller whenever possible, even for doctors appointments.
My dr said don't do anything like that for the first two weeks, so ill probably start after that. I live in a townhouse, so she also told me only one trip up and down the stairs each day. I've been following her strict instructions to rest and am feeling good! Had my staples removed this morning and everything looked good!
I it was 2 weeks BUT I started getting pain about a month after. Be careful about how you put in in and out of the car - hopefully you have one that doesn't require you to climb in or twist. I have a taller SUV, so it was putting stress on my incision to put it in/take it out of the car. I had other people help me with it for a few days and the pain went away. I had a car seat stroller, so I didn't pick it up except to move it from the car to the stroller.
If you are cleared to do that by your doctor, remember to still be cautious and stop if you start having pain.

What kind of carseat do you have that weighs 20 pounds without the baby? I've never seen an infant seat that heavy without a baby...

Check with your doctor about when you're supposed to be carrying 30lbs.
