What are some signs that your LO is going through a growth spurt??

What tips/tricks do you have to get through them?

Thanks :)

Re: Growth Spurt Question

  • DD was crazy fussy and wanted to nurse alllllllll the time. I thought I was running out of milk, but luckily read up on what was happening before I had a chance to panic too much. Half a week later she had gained 1/2lb!

I don't think I had any tricks, but just rode it out. Good luck :)

  • For us, it was constant feeding and lots of fussy/crying time! I know it's a growth spurt when I feel defeated and want to quit BF. The only thing that got me through it knowing that it will pass in a few days and just have to get through it. And also all the support from this board too reassuring me that it'll get better soon!

I just went through the 6 week one. she slept a lot right before anf afterward  so i kind of had a warning it was starting. the fussiness seemed to be from being hungry, then by the time she was done eating, she was over-tired. we basically fed her till she did not want anymore, then soothed her as much as possible to help her fall asleep. she decided she likef a pacifier at this time too. she does not use ot anymore, and at the time, she would just spit the nipple out so we knew she was not hungry.

    sorry about typos, on phone.

I'm thinking DS is going through his 3 week growth spurt.... he slept from 9:00pm-4:30am 2 nights ago and then all day yesterday and today has been pretty much awake, fussy/crying and only calming down when given a bottle. (even if he only eats an once or so)

Also, he's only been able to be calmed down if I swaddle him.... which I don't typically do expect at night time to help him know it's night time and not nap time... but he gets himself so over tired from being up practically all day long (Yesterday he only napped a TOTAL of 3 hours throughout the whole day) that he needs a good swaddle just to relax... I keep it a loose one though so that he still gets a different swaddle at night.

I've been getting so frustrated not knowing what he wants, but I feel better after reading all of your posts and knowing it will end in a few days.  Thanks again :)

Fussiness and a lot of eating. They usually go through growth spurts around certain ages.

Here is a good link about growth spurts.  https://www.whattoexpect.com/first-year/ask-heidi/baby-growth-spurts.aspx

  • This is exactly our life right now. I broke down in tears a bit ago because I'm so sxhausted from her not napping and constantly fussing and wanting to eat. How long do these last?

I've been told they last just a few days!!!  I'm three days in and he seems to be better today, def. sleeping more :)  He's eating larger quantities today but every 3 hours or so instead of every 1.5-2 hours.  Good luck, I'm right there with you!

  • DS just went through his 3 month growth spurt and boy was that fun. He was fussy and just could not get enough to eat and when he wasn't fussing he was sleeping more. The only thing that soothed him was for me to walk around the house with him and cuddle when he wanted. I am not going to lie sometimes there was just nothing I could do to soothe him except be there.
