Doppler

Does anyone have a doppler?  When are you going to try it out?

I was doing some googling and found that it's rare to find it at 8w.  I've found all of mine by the end of the 9th week, so not too much more wait.  My husband was asking me the other day (in a pesty voice) "So when are you going to break out the doppler?".  I told him I'd try tomorrow for 7w, but that I was 99% it wouldn't work.  lol

Re: Doppler

  • We had one for our first but it was a piece of crap. We wanted to rent a good one but the company wanted a note from our Dr. Our Dr. said no that we would drive ourselves nuts looking for the heart beat. I'm not going to bother this time around.

  • I was wondering the same thing.  I don't have one yet but am looking into buying one.  Any recommendations on a good one?

  • I bought this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/Prenatal-Heart-Listener-Fetal-Monitor/dp/B005UN9BK2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1343075718&sr=8-4&keywords=fetal+doppler

around 14 weeks during my last pregnancy. Never had a problem finding the heartbeat and it always worked for me. I used ultrasound gel that came with it, but when I try it this time, I think I'll try aloe vera.

    ETA: Forgot the link.

  • Thanks!  I'll check it out :)

  • I wouldn't know what to listen for.

How can you tell it's the baby's?  What does it sound like?

  • We will pull it out at 9 weeks. I was able to find Marshall on the doppler at 9 wks. Do not get freaked out if you dont find anything till around 12 or more though.

The baby's heart beats much faster than yours, it kind of sounds like a galloping horse.

  • I think I found my LO's hb on our doppler around 14 weeks.  She was a lot lower in my pelvis than I expected her to be.  I'll probably try again around the same time for this pregnancy.

  • I have the Sonoline B also.  We got it on Ebay.  They're so much cheaper than they were years ago.  If your doppler has a display on it, look for something 110+ bpm.  Sometimes my hb is up when I'm trying to find it, or it sounds fast to me, so I'll check my pulse somewhere while I'm listening to decide if it's me or the baby.

  • There is also a great video on YouTube that explains how to use it. Search for Plus1Please and Doppler to find it.

  • I have also used the sonoline. FWIW, I didn't find the heartbeat until 15 weeks and it was very low!

I think a lot of people think they find it early, but at 9 weeks your baby is still tucked way below your pubic bone.

Im not saying I don't believe anyone because I know each person is different, but it's not common to find it so early.

  • I had one with my daughter and LOVED it, I also got the one from amazon and didn't look for my DD's heartbeat until 11 weeks after my appt and I found it.  I never had an issue finding it and loved having it

I think the baby's sounds like a really fast washing machine where yours will sound like a piece of poster board flopping back and forth.

  • We had the Sonoline B with DS and I used it daily and loved it.  I'm a worrier too and it gave great peace of mind between appts.

Funny story, i found DS's heartbeat 2 days before our first REAL appt at 12 weeks and listened to it everyday.  The day of the appt we went in and the dr (general dr, who we later switched to an OB) couldn't find DS's heartbeat, so he sent us for an U/S.  I was so thankful that i purchased the doppler and had already heard the heartbeat, otherwise i would have been in full panic.  Totally worth the money!

  • I have the Sonoline B. I love it. My last pregnancy I found HB at 10 weeks. I will for sure be using it agian this time!!!! I highly doubt it will work at 7 weeks - and that will in turn freak you out. I would wait til 10 weeks so you don't freak out.

  • It's not going to freak me out to not find it.  I already told him I wouldn't find it.
