Truthfully, I support the comedic genius of these cards for their overt nature more than the subtle, cutesy attempts to wrangle money and presents out of generous family and friends.
I am willing to bet these were sent to friends and family who know the couple and their humor.
I would never do this, but it is definitely something that someone with my sense of humor would do. LOL

I found them on etsy!
The sad thing is, a lot of idiots in my family would totally send these out and be serious. They drive me nuts. Hey let's breed and expect everyone else to pay for our offspring! yay! Ugh.
I have seen birth announcements like this before and they are not meant to be taken seriously. There is a website that my friend used that had all sorts of birth announcements that were tongue-in-cheek. The point is to kind of make fun of really gift grabby parents.
But, they chould only be sent to people that have a sense of humor and a sarcarsm radar, cause I bet that some people that didn't pick up on the joke would get offended.

Oh my. See, this could go one of two ways: sent out by a couple with a sarcastic sense of humor and everyone receiving one would get the joke and understand their sense of humor OR someone sees these on Etsy and sends them out, no joking around, fully expecting money.

It would require 1) knowing your "audience" 2) knowing that it is not okay to ask for money.

I can appreciate the humor in them, but would be aghast at anyone that took them as a serious announcement or invite. When I saw the picture, I first laughed! Then my reaction was a loss for words as to the expectation of someone actually using them for real.
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
In my circle these would be hilarious, but I totally wouldn't do it and I can think of many people who would be horrified to see it. I, however, would love to get one!
i have sarcastic humor , but all my friends and family know it. I am pretty sure i could pull off sending them out and not be taken seriously by MY friends and family. i would have to send a traditional one a day or two later A) to confirm the first one was joking and I more than likely would not attempt to send a joke one to DH family .
My heart goes out to that poor family, to be involved in a hostage situation right after the birth of their child, tragic. Oh... they aren't trying to pool together money to cover a ransom? My mistake.
