Hi, after eliminating all top 8 allergens for 7 weeks, my LO was still reacting. Finally, I cut all animal protein and she has been getting better. I know she was definitely reacting to beef and chicken, so her dietitian said to go vegan for at least 8 weeks. Has anyone else had to do this? Were you able to add some animal protein in eventually? I am thinking of trying salmon soon. I am not sure how to get enough calories and protein while on a vegan diet. I have been losing way too much weight. Any help would be much appreciated. I miss food.
Re: MFPI and vegan diet
I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. I would talk to a dietitian to get ideas of what to eat to make sure you're getting the nutrients you need. I'm going to talk with one soon because I'm losing too much weight being dairy, soy, and nut free.
Do you like beans or quinoa? Those are both vegan sources of protein. You could also try a protein powder that you add to drinks/smoothies/oatmeal. I put pea protein powder in DD1's rice milk sometimes. I don't use a whole scoop as it's really too much to add to anything and not have it taste horrible or end up too thick. But you could add a tablespoon or two to a smoothie and still get a good amount of protein.
Sunbutter is another vegan source of protein that also contains lots of healthy fat. They have a statement on their site regarding the cleanout process between processing soy and processing the sunflowers, so you'll want to read that and decide if you want to give it a try.
Just a couple ideas that I hope might be helpful. I hope you can get your diet figured out so you and your LO can both be healthy!
DD1: allergic to eggs & dairy
c/p 4/1/11
DD2: milk and soy protein intolerant, allergic to eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, bananas

This plant based protein powder has a ton of protein and I think the cocoa flavor is great. I have been making it with a banana, ice, and milk alternatives for the past year.
