October 2011 Moms

I love being judged as a parent by random people...

Conversation with me and some random guy that approached me at Target this evening (it all started with Ronin busting into his belly laugh b/c I'm hilarious when I make fishy faces at him):

Guy:  Aww, that's so cute-love that laugh!  Is it a girl?

(It?!?!  Seriously?  Might I add that R was wearing khaki shorts and a dark blue polo shirt)

Me:  No, he's a boy.

Guy:  Cool.  I'll bet he's just walking all over the place, huh?

Me:  Nope, not even crawling.  He sits like a champ, though.

Guy:  Really?!  He's not walking yet?  How old is he?

Me:  About 9.5 months.

Guy:  Oh, ok he'll walk soon then.  At least he's crawling.

Me:  Nope, not crawling.

Guy:  Oh, man, that's terrible!  Have you taken him to a doctor to get checked out.  Is he ok?  Will he ever be able to walk or crawl, do you think?  What are you doing as his mom to show him how it's done?

At that point, I just walked away without another word.

  • FFS. My grandmother always does this too. She was extremely worried that he wasn't crawling at 4 months. Not even scooting? No, Grandma. Have another drink.

    Maybe he's a drunk?

  • People are idiots. Don't take it to heart.

And honestly, I admire you for not ripping his head off.

  • When people question me about DS not crawling at nearly 10 months, I just bust out the fact that it's not even a milestone for the American Academy of Pediatrics because not all babies crawl.

  •  What makes people think that its any of their GD business?? I hate it when people say stuff like that.

I had one woman come up to my car at my neices' softball game, as I was getting my carrier out of the car I shut the baby's door to walk around it, getting my carrier on she says "You're not going to LEAVE her in there are you?"  Oh, why yes, i just feel like parading around here in my carrier with no baby in it for the fun of it. She'll be fine you think? Geez.

  • Before A started crawling I got asked a couple of times if he was ok. I find that so insulting. One time I answered it's better he didn't crawl yet, then I wouldn't have to leash him yet. The look I got for that was priceless.

  • People do not have the slightest clue what babies should or shouldn't be doing. I get these questions all the time, and I have been asked if S was walking way back when he was 6 months. I blamed it on him being taller than most babies his age, but it was most likely just the person not having the slightest clue what he should be doing at that age. That guy was an idiot, though. Whose business is it of his what you are doing as a mother? ::eyeroll::

  • I've given up arguing and just let people think they're right.  People tell me all the time that Amelia is so little and must be small for her age, and I just tell them that she is a little baby.  She's actually 50% for both weight and height (90% head), so she's perfectly average.  It's not worth my time.

I hate when the peanut gallery judges for things like walking. My son didn't walk until he was 15 months, and now he's so fast I have a hard time catching him.  I really cannot believe he asked if he'd ever be able to walk- what a stupid thing to say!

  • What a nosy dumb ass. FFS, crawling is not a milestone and walking before a year is early. I wish if people were going to comment they would actually know what the bfuck they were talking about.

  • That guy is a loser. As if he really cared about the answers to his questions, anyway. At least you knew he was a chump from the get go with the boy/girl question.

  • You deserve a medal for not punching him in the mouth. I hope he'll think twice about approaching another mom.

  • People are morons, and usually, the dumber they are, they more they talk.

People are always asking me if Li is a boy.  This weekend at breakfast, Li was wearing hot pink shoes, a hot pink shirt and a pink rain coat, some guy comes up to her and says, "hey there big guy!"... huh?

My grandmother's friend, when she was wearing a yellow dress, asked how old he is, I said she's 9 months.  She looks at Li and says, "she needs some hair, how's anyone supposed to know it's a girl".  Am I supposed to go out and get her extensions?

C isn't walking/ crawing yet either.  Here are some things that I just thought of with the benefit of hindsight.

"Yes, we have taken him to the Doctor.  Sadly, they said that he will never be able to walk or crawl..."

"I'm purposely not showing him how it's done, I want to keep him immoble as long as possible!"

"Eff off, you effing piece of sh!t"

    heh heh heh heh...

My grandmother told me Li is chubby.  Li is in the 10th percentile weight-wise...

  • It's funny how everyone is a professional parent once you go out in public with your child.  I really love how people point out the fact my child is chunky and that hopefully she thins out, because I have family members who are overweight.  Yes, my 9.5 month old needs to worry about her weight already.

  • What a creep!

People think DD is a boy any time I put her in something that isn't pink or a dress. Yesterday she had a yellow onesie on and so many people told me how cute my little boy was. Whatever.
