Hi ladies, I'll start by doing an intro since I've never posted before. I've been lurking for a while now but I haven't felt comfortable posting until I had my first ultrasound (seeing the heartbeat was sooo amazing!). I am due on Feb 15 and I am a FTM. You all have been SO helpful so far with calming my many fears and answering my questions, just through my lurking, so thank you!
So I have begun researching carseats and strollers- I know it is super early but I am a teacher so I just want to start looking into it now before things get really stressful when I return to school at the end of August. But it has been extremely overwhelming with the different carseats and strollers and each one has different features and some brands are compatible with others but some some are not, and whether to get a snap-and-go and a stroller or a jogging stoller or all 3, and basically my mind is in a tailspin after reading reviews and ratings and trying to figure out which is the safest and what I want. So, especially second time moms, please share what carseat and strollers you have used and also any that have not worked for you. Thanks so much!
Re: Carseat and stroller question
A fellow bumpie posted this link last week, super helpful!

Graco snug ride car seat and a graco snap and go stroller. Just get the snap and go at first. Your infant can't ride in a stroller seat until about 4 months anyway when he/she has more head control. Use the snap and go in the beginning and it will help you decide what kind of stroller you will want once the baby is bigger. I use my snap and go more than any of the other strollers I have. It's so light weight and being able to leave your infant in their car seat is wonderful.
The book 'baby bargains' really helped me with baby #1 when I was trying to figure out what stuff I needed and what I didn't.
I was never a fan of the travel systems (my opinion) because the strollers were always so much bulkier to me.
So, we went with the Chicco KeyFit 30 car seat, an extra base, the Snap n Go stroller and a Zooper Waltz stroller. I am in love with the Zooper brand. LOVE. I found them on diapers.com and costco.com. The strollers come with all of the accessories packaged neatly together. And the covers are machine washable and easy to put back on.
I actually went on Craigs List last fall and found a Zooper double stroller and bought it. My cousin watches DD and my friend's son together, so it's been great for getting out on walks with them.
ETA: I should add, the infant seat fit in our stroller just fine, as well. There was a strap to lock the seat in. However, the stroller is useable from newborn to 40 lbs, so we used the stroller without the infant seat and DD was much more comfortable (because she wasn't scrunched).
I'm a FTM too, and have been doing tons of research since we will be having an early baby shower due to long travels. I am leaning towards a travel system, and am leaning towards the Britax B-Agile travel system. It's a bit more expensive than the Graco travel system, but the stroller is much lighter and easier to maneuver. I had a back injury a couple years ago, so something light is very important to me.

Thank you for posting this!
I just spent the last 10 minutes reading through some of it and it is sooo helpful! This is going in my favorites.
I spent last night reading that site and doing some research. Most of mt friends (all ftms) have the uppababy vista. Well, I found a stroller online that is similar, has good reviews amd you can get a universal carseat adapter for it for quite a bit cheaper. I don't feel that I need a bassinet since I've seen friends use it very minimally and they outgrow it fast (although you can get one). Anyhow the company is called guzzie+guss. When the time comes to look, we'll look at all the options, but I want something easy to handle, carry and fold (we live in a 3 story walk up).
My super all about me birth story:
Then: Fraternal twins born at 26 weeks in 1983. Me: 640 grams. Brother: 840 grams. Family kept watch in the NICU for 5 months before being allowed to go home. On oxygen for a year and a half after being released.
Now: Me: PhD student and married. Brother: Lawyer and married.
Dad's wedding speech: Thank you to all the family who stood watch and prayed for our children's survival. Well now the little scrawny chicken is married. Who would've thought? (Thanks dad for making me laugh and cry at the same time).

We have the Chicco Cortina travel system and will continue to use it for #2. We debated getting just a snap n go, but DH really preferred the Cortina to the Snap n Go. (Although now Chicco has their own version of the Snap n Go so not sure how that rates up there.)
We have a Macalren Volo also which I looooooove now that DS is bigger.
DS1: Quinn - 10.22.10 and DS2: Cole - 01.18.13
We got the Chicco Keyfit 30 travel system with DD. Love the carseat, don't so much love the stroller. It works fine, it is easy to unfold and fold back up, I like the cup holders, the basket is a decent size... but it is kind of bulky, and it definitely isn't the best off terrain stroller. It has held up for 2+ years, but I think if I could do it again, I'd get a snap and go, and then a nicer stroller.
But really, really loved our infant seat.

The Chicco Cortina travel system has an adjustable handle, which might be nice for you if you did decide to go that route, especially if anyone else taller is going to be pushing it.

I have started to look as well.. Really like the Safety 1st Air SE carseat and the Quinny stroller. Like the look of them, safety is ranked #1 and they are cool looking (in my opinion).
I agree with some of the above statements, i dont like the thought of a travel system for the fact that they seem bulky. No personal experince with it, but know from others that they felt they were bulky as well.. I love shopping for this stuff though.. So exciting!
Um...Costco had a deal for their new umbrella stroller, which is sold exclusively through there...for $94. I know, for an umbrella stroller, that's expensive. OMG - DD loves being in it. And I love it just as much as the others! And it's so light! Even the double stroller I can carry up our basement stairs without issue. The single (the Waltz that we have) is 17 lbs. Still lighter than the Chicco travel system and it folds flatter so it easily fit into my trunk (honda civic) and my mom's trunk (ford fusion hybrid).
I feel like I *should* know these things, but we didn't have a car when DS (now 7) was an infant - he didn't even see the inside of a one until he was over a year old - so I'm not sure what to get as far as an infant seat.
We had a stroller that we ended up never using (it was all about the Ergo for us - much easier on the bus or subway), so we're skipping that this time and will probably just get a car seat that stays in the car. I feel like I need to re-research the entire issue!
