We did bananas tonight both as a puree and a little mixed into his cereal. ?Both were miserable failures. ?He keeps trying to puke everything up. ?I will page photo_nut later on and see if I can get some advice from her as well. ?It may also not help that DS is teething again, although I'm doing my best to stay on top of the pain. ?I may just give DS a couple days to relax without stressing out at the dinner table and just make sure he is taken care of bfing and try a little oatmeal without fruits or veggies. ?Thanks for the help ladies. ?I, as always, appreciate your insight. ?:-)
Re: Update:RE: DS and solids
Aww, I know that's difficult.
Teething is horrible!
Have you tried foods in the a.m. when he's fresh and awake instead of p.m? I know DD eats way better in the a.m. vs p.m. (I didn't read the pp, so sorry if I'm repeating or not helping!)

I'm sorry, I didn't see your earlier posts either, but I just wanted to say that DD doesn't like banana. I loved it as a baby (heck, still do) but she just does not like it, in any form. She won't eat it. As finger food, she might put it into her mouth, but she'll also throw up rather than swallow. So don't disregard plain dislike as a possibility. For early foods, she loved peaches (both puree and as finger foods) and cereal with a lot of breastmilk in it.
I think you're taking the right approach letting go for a few days. Playing with food is ok too. As my mom reminds me when I'm frustrated at the waste of baby food, "there are lots of ways to experience food." As we've done solids for a couple months now, she is better about eating and not playing (not to say that she doesn't play, but the ratio is better).
Good luck!
I saw my name!
I missed some earlier posts, we just moved and I haven't been on the board as much, so hopefully I am giving some decent advice here.
DD is coming up on 20 months and still not eating. She has sensory issues, so I need to take her to a feeding therapist who specializes in sensory issues. DD did throw up, too, she has reflux and multiple food allergies.
You should really discuss this with a doctor, not sure of the whole background, but throwing up can be anything from just a strong gag reflux to a serious health issue, allergies or a hernia. It could be related or unrelated to reflux. DD ended up getting an endoscopy. Gagging is not normal and needs to be pursued.
I don't stress about it anymore, at this point, if a feeding clinic and a OT can't get my child to eat, then I sure as heck know it wasn't something I did, and probably I won't be able to get my child to eat either. And no amount of anyone saying "did you try this" will get my child to eat either. After trying to get her to eat everyday for 14 months, it's out of my hands.
If you go the feeding therapy route, find out what works with your child. Behaivor therapy (eat something and you will get a toy) was a miserable failure with DD and it set her back for weeks.
