when does stomach start going down?

OK, so I had my girls very early Sunday morning. My question is,when will my stomach look sort of normal.I still look very PG and I know that in the scheme of things it is not that important. But it is driving me crazy.

Is there anything I can do, tips?

TIA

Re: when does stomach start going down?

  • The postpartum binder is your best friend!!!  It will give you support and help shrink you back to normal mich quicker. I was looking and feeling much less pregnant and much more normal at about 2 weeks after.
  • Loading the player...
  • Breastfeeding- I didn't use a binder, just pumped to fed the boys in the NICU and I was back in my normal clothes by two weeks. My sisters were quite surprised.
  • Did you deliver VAG or C? That can make a difference for people, too. With my first singleton, I was down to a somewhat-normal size without a binder around 1 month, though that extra layer of fat never really disappeared. With my second singleton, I was back down to my normal extra fat layer the same week. Both VAG deliveries. I'm expecting it will take several months postpartum after the twins, tho, because my muscles will be much further stretched and separated, I'll have less elasticity, a new layer of fat, and likely be recovering under the restrictions presented by a C section.

  • Ugh it drove me crazy too.

I don't think it was until about 6/7 weeks that I stopped looking pregnant to others (to me I still looked bloated-pregnant).  I'm 17wksish out and my big stomach issues are separated abs and twin skin.

Don't worry, time heals all :)

  • I think after a few weeks it was a good deal better, although it kept improving maybe till 4ish months? Hasn't changed since then I don't think but I am pretty much back to normal.  I think if I just did some ab exercises I would be happy haha.  I remember being surprised how awkward it still looked after I had them...I don't know why I didn't expect it :)  And still being asked a couple times when I was due...after I had them.  But no worries!  It gets better.  I also pumped and wore my bellyband thing folded down for awhile.  I thing hauling around two carseats/babies helps too!
  • Mine went noticeably down in a week without a binder (I have one just sort of forgot about it!) to the point where I didn't look pregnant anymore.

Now, at 3 months out I have some tone and fat issues. If I suck in it looks like it's old self, but it's just looser all around. I had a very flat 4-pack stomach pre-pregnancy, so it's a big change for me, and the big reason most of my pants don't button without major muffin top. Le sigh. A work in progress.

  • within 2 weeks i looked like a "regular" person with some extra belly fat.  i had a c-section.  i still wear my maternity jeans and pants because i feel like i jiggle a little less.  i'm not back to my pre-pregnancy body, but i definitely didn't look pregnant after week 2.

p.s. i am pumping too, so that prob helps.

  • I lost 35 of 45lbs in one week...then nothing...I'm still the same weight as 2 weeks postpartum (even pumping). My belly is slowly getting less and less round, but that's where the extra 10lbs is still. If I wore my pre preg clothes, there would be a huge muffin top, so I'm still going out in maternity jeans and 1 pair of capris that fits. I do not want to buy new clothes. I really don't go out much anyway. My abs are so weak though, I'm really hoping to find time to exercise soon!

  • I wore my binder around the clock for 3 weeks and I dont feel like it did much for me (maybe I was expecting a miracle). I am 8 weeks pp and I look about 4 months pregnant. I used to have a super flat stomach and I honestly dont think it will ever go back down. My OB/GYN said at 6 months that is pretty much what you are working with...I see a tummy tuck in my future,

  • I'm 4 months out and I still have a mushy belly and muffin top. I'm back into my pre-preg jeans, but they don't fit quite right....I'm back to normal everywhere but my belly.  I have to start exercising even though I've been eating healthy.  I think pilates would be a good thing to start doing.  I lost 40lbs in the first month but that pesky 11lbs. is still hanging on.
