1st Trimester

How can people know that I am pregnant at 5-weeks?

I am a fitness instructor, so I am in very good shape.  I am 5-weeks pregnant, and have already have had 4 people ask me at the gym if I am pregnant within the last few days.  Who the heck asks that?  I am a really honest person, and don't want to tell anyone until my 2nd trimester.  I feel that I want to avoid everyone until then.  I just don't want to lie to anyone.  I feel really bloated, so my body perception may be skewed.  I think that I might be getting a pudgy tummy and my boobs are growing. Is it possible to show this early?  How do I handle situations where people ask me if I am pregnant?  There is a part of me that just wants to say, "NO! I'm just getting fat!"  Can anyone relate?

  • Well, considering asking if you're pregnant or asking if you've gained weight at 5 weeks PG basically equates to the same thing, I would say those people are rude in asking, period.

Don't tell unless you want to. You can dodge the question, laugh it off or simply say "It's none of your business but thank you for asking."

  • You must be "glowing" ;)  I had someone ask me if I was pregnant very early on in my pregnancy with DS and I didn't show until waaaaay after that.  Don't worry, you're not showing.

  • My good friend guessed, too. She said I looked different, "a tired glow" is how she put it. I must have just looked exhausted or something, lol.

This, but I probably wouldn't be as polite. Wink

  • I have no problem lying if someone asks.  I think asking someone is beyond rude.  The one person who asked received this response: "No, but apparently I have gained weight and I appreciate you taking the time to point it out to me.  It's very rude to ask someone that question; If you haven't been told, either the person isn't pregnant or it is none of your business."  I will add that when I was asked, I was 5 1/2 weeks.

It is probably your chest. Last year when I was only a few weeks pregnant (maybe 6) and we had just found out, a student (male) walked up to me and goes 'yo, miss are you pregnant?'. Apparently teenage boys are rather observant of their teachers boobs I of course was mortified

    That's not inappropriate or anything...

  • I'm at 5 weeks, just found out myself, and my sister in law put the pieces together within hours of visiting her!  It was a combination of my altered, slightly freaked out (but happy!) behavior and my frequent use of the restroom.

  • I had two coworkers tell me that I was glowing and ask me if I was pregnant before I even got my BFP!

I appreciate the answers and support from you all.  It is comforting to know that you all can relate.

  • I got flagged by a few coworkers for being pregnant around 5 weeks, and it was the frequent bathroom trips, not any weight gain.

  • I'm really nervous about this! I've been extremely bloated, and my pre-pregnancy tiny A cup boobs were hardly contained in my bikini tops this weekend. DH loves it, but I'm hanging out with friends soon (one who knows everything about everyone) and I'm so nervous I'm going to get busted! Between my bigger chest, bloated belly, and avoiding the blackened food from the grill and alcohol I think she'll have me sniffed out in a couple of hours. DH says I'm overreacting but we haven't told anyone yet and I don't want friends to be the first to know.

This.  I worked with a girl who was "outed" when a male coworker noticed that here boobs had gotten larger practically overnight.

Why would you have to avoid blackened food from the grill?  I eat blackened chicken all the time, it's just seasoning.
