i need to breathe

i had an absolute sobbing meltdown with DH last night.

i feel so unprepared for this baby. i know part of it is that her nursery is not done yet, due to the fact that we are waiting to get the big things until after my shower on the 28th, since we have no idea what we will be given and our BRU is an hour away, along with every other non-WalMart store in our area.

but as we were trying to find a weekend to get away between now and LO's arrival, we realized that we have a mere 5 1/2 weeks until my due date. and then i started to cry. because everything feels incredibly real, and it's getting so close, and i think i'm just scared.

i feel like i'm the only one who is just not prepared for this baby to be here, and it's intimidating and frightening to say the least. add to that, i am having such terrible hip and pelvic pain that turning over in bed makes me cry.

i know i need to calm down and breathe and look at things logically, but right now, i just need a hug.

  • I think it's super normal for people to freak out before the baby gets here!

To me, it's the idea that our lives are going to change in a way that they haven't before and that's scary.

But I'm also sure that once you do have your baby, you'll be ok!

  • I don't feel prepared either. I thought our infant carrier expires this December but it was last so now I'm on the hunt for a new one. Our Target and Wal Mart has a crappy in store selection, BRU and BBB are 45 mins away. I'd rather see something in person before buying it online.

  • I feel ya. I'm typically an over planner but I wouldn't say I'm prepared at all for this baby. What calmed me down is by talking to my friends and co-workers who are new parents. Not a single one of them thought they were prepared when their baby was born and they are all doing great :). One thing they keep telling me is every baby is different. You can buy all the baby products in the world and read all the baby books ever published, your baby will still catch you off guard (they are as unique as they come). Take a deep breath and keep in mind that we are all in the same boat :)

Oh yeah if it makes you feel better, I haven't even started on our nursery yet and our shower is late Aug. We are also moving later this year. I've decided whatever happens happen. The baby will have mommy and daddy around so she will be fine :)

  • I have nothing done for the baby either..they don't even have a room yet as it is still DHs office. As for the pelvic pain I can relate..I get it really bad every pregnancy. Sometimes I cannot move my hips because of the pain. Google SPD or pelvic girdle dysfunction and you will probably find tips on how to deal with the pain. It goes away right after the baby is born at least. I find that sitting for long periods of time makes it worse so I try to stay on my feet as much as possible, or at least sit on a yoga ball.

  • Totally, totally normal.  It's scary becoming a first time parent!  BUT.  Your baby doesn't need a nursery.  Your baby doesn't need a whole lot of stuff.  Your baby needs VERY little at first.  As long as she's fed and has a safe place to sleep, she's fine.  As long as you've got diapers and a handful of onesies, everyone will be fine.  I'm sure there's a Target or Walmart within a few minutes of you - what you don't have, your DH can run and get the day you come home from the hospital or you can run and get when you've been home a few days and need a 20 minute break from the baby.  Don't sweat the little things, they truly won't matter for some time.  We had DS's nursery all decked out by mid-2nd tri ..... and it sat there collecting dust until he was 3 months old and I felt ready to put him in there.  Everything took place in our room with the swing and PNP - he slept in that, he was changed on the changing table attachment, he napped or hung out in the swing when I needed to shower or get something done.

Deep breaths, I promise, you're more prepared than you think you are.

I had a meltdown on Friday- we are living 3000 away from family and friends and we are doing this on our own- my sister is flying in to "help" this Wednesday but rumors around the family that she is really coming to party and sight see ( we are living San Francisco)

However, today, my husband and made a lot of headway so I am going to bed tonight not feeling so behind.
