My husband and I have decided to name our little girl Charlie when she arrives in December. Her grandfather, Charles, passed away before getting to meet his first grandchild, and we want to honor his memory.
Unfortunately, we cannot figure out any name that would sound right as her middle name. Our last name is an H-er, and the 'er' ending always makes it harder to choose.
Any ideas? Thanks!!
Re: Girly Middle Names for Charlie
This is very unpopular opinion on this board of "no boy names on girls" but I LOVE Charlie for a girl!
Charlie Rose
Charlie Beth
Charlie Madeline
Charlie Nicole
Charlie June
Charlie Faith
Charlie Evelyn
Charlie Alexandra
Charlie Katerina
Charlie Francesca
Charlie Gabriella
Charlie Isabella
Charlie Leanna
Charlie Carolina
Charlie Juliana
Charlie Elisabeth
Charlie Renee
Charlie Natalia
Charlie Olivia
We were thinking about naming our first girl Charlotte Grace (with the nickname Charlie). Charlie Grace was SUCH an adorable name to me (DH didn't like Charlie though, which was the whole point of Charlotte for me.) Rose is also a very girly middle name.
We really like the Charlie + Rose combination, but we eliminated after realizing it would always remind us of the host/journalist male.
In our families, nicknames are completely out of the question. Our parents all have inforced the rule of, "If you are name it, you will be called by it." For example, my name is Angela. Never in my life was I ever allowed to be called by Angie, Ang, etc. So it's either Charlie or a completely different name, and we're pretty set on naming her Charlie.
Just FYI regarding Charlie Rose; this is the name of a famous male journalist.

That's what I thought of when I saw the Rose suggestion.
I like Charlie Marie.
Am I wrong to assume your a grown adult who can name your child whatever you want and call it whatever you want? I'm sorry, but that's a ridiculous excuse not to give your baby girl a feminine first name. Obviously, my vote goes for Charlie as a nn, or possibly a middle name to still honor your grandfather.
The first name I thought of was Charlie Marie too!
You know a Charlie Harper? That makes me sad.
We are adults and have the right to choose our baby's name, and if it is our choice not to give her a purely feminine first name, I don't think that should become an issue of anyone else's. There's no point in naming a baby something allthewhile knowing we will be calling her something else. Why name her Charlene if the only time she'll hear that name is during graduation? We definitely support our families' choices of avoiding nicknames at all cost. Our little girl will be named Charlie, we're just trying to decide on a middle name. But thanks anyway!
You can name your child whatever you want. I think it is odd that in a family against nicknames you are honoring a family member by naming your child a nickname that I would assume he was never called.
ETA:That really isn't supposed to sound Biitchy, I just really don't understand if your family is so against nicknames, why Charlie (a nickname for Charles) would be considered honoring him. I would think Charlene (the female version of the name) would be more of an honor. He would have avoided being called Charlie at all costs so I find it very odd to use it in his honor.
We're debating using Charley for our little girl's name too. We're a "call them what you name them" type of people too.
DH feels really strongly that it needs to have a 1 syllable name for a middle name--his vote is Grace.
I don't care about syllables and like the following middle names:
Isabella
Madeleine
Olivia
Sophia
Good luck in your search!!
Sophia
Olivia
Madelyn
