Interesting trip to the pharmacy tonight

I called in a prescription refill for some of my fertility meds and I picked them up tonight. When I got home and took the meds out, it was really strange because they were in a manufacturer bottle rather than a generic pill bottle. I take off the cap and it was sealed with foil. This made it even more strange, because the bottle said there was 30 pills in there, and my prescription is only for 5. I break the seal and sure enough, there's 30 pills in there! I called the pharmacy, even though I knew they wouldn't want them back since I broke the seal. The pharmacist just laughed it off and said, well I guess you get 5 extra months of meds if you need them! So that's a pretty sweet deal ... maybe I should try to sell them on the black market ... • Hooray for you! But I'm with Nita, sending baby dust so you don't need them, in which case the black market is a great idea ;)

  • Holy cow!  That is awesome for you!  It seems strange to me, what if they did that with narcotics or something?  Kinda strange the pharmacist didn't seem concerned.  Especially with how expensive pharmaceuticals are.

I hope I don't need them either! We were really lucky and got pregnant the first round last time. I don't really expect that this time around, but we'll hope!

I thought the same thing, too. The only thing he was concerned about was the "count" of pills they had on stock, since obviously they will be short 25 from what the computer shows. Let's hope they are a little bit more careful with narcotics.

I'm on the generic and for 5 it's $83 without insurance. I have insurance and they are free for me. Big Smile

I'm not ... my OB has me take a pregnancy test before I start my meds. I wish I was!

I just realized that that could really sound insensitive, and I want to apologize for that.

Anyways, here is to hoping that you'll make a fortune on the black market. After all, you need to start saving up for the wedding of our kids.

    Take that, Carson!

Unless the bottle came back unopened they would have had to either discard the pills or wait till they expired to return them for partial credit.  Most likely even if it was unopened they might have done the same thing since you can't guarantee that they were stored properly and not tampered with.

When it comes to narcotics most pharmacies will double count them before they are bagged up since junkies like to claim that they are shorted pills all the time.  In my store, the technicians double count all controls and I count them again when I check the prescription.

I didn't take it as insensitive at all!

We already set aside money just for special Abby things, so hopefully we can provide an awesome wedding and party!!

Carson, you better step up your game!! ;o)

This is exactly what I assume would happen -- a double count of the dispensed meds. The pharmacist said that they typically dispense a full bottle of this med (it's primary use is not for fertility), and it just was "overlooked." (( shrugs shoulders ))

  • Where is the black market? Is that Craigslist? A friend of a friend was apparently unloading codeine cough syrup on FB yesterday. Fun fact: the cool kids call it Mrs. Butterworths.

Also sending baby dust. I don't throw this stuff around lightly, and I have an excellent track record. I can provide references.

I think there could quite possibly be a black market on TB somewhere!

And Mrs. Butterworths?? For real ... Mrs. Butterworth's taste SOO much better than codeine cough syrup. :oP

How many references you've got?? Hopefully I can help you keep up with you track record!

Not really a Black Market but the 3Tc & IF boards have a program where people donate their unused meds to those without insurance. I don't think it's legal (so maybe it is the Black Market?) and I never felt comfortable donating mine/asking for donated meds to/from someone I don't know.
