So I just finished my birthing classes, and one of the last things the Winthrop l&d nurse told us was that we should not put the baby in a sleeper or onesie until after the umbilical cord stump falls off. When we asked what we should be putting them in, we were told half shirt and diaper or baby kimono. How strict is Winthrop about enforcing this? All the really cute coming home outfits I love are onesies or pjs. Of course I'll make sure that the outfit is loose around the belly, but nobody I know has had this requirement. I just don't want to be told I can't take my baby home, because the hospital doesn't approve of the take home outfit.
Re: Anyone Delivering/Delivered At Winthrop? A Quick Question...
I'm no help because I didn't do the class... just wanted to say that I'm also delivering at Winthrop and our due dates are pretty close to one another. Hi from a fellow September mama-to-be!
I doubt that they won't let you take your baby home. It's probably more of a suggestion.
Hi!
I delivered at winthrop in june. We did a private birthing class in our home with a woman who also works as a L&D nurse at winthrop. She never once mentioned that to us and when DD was born, I had her in my room 24/7 and I kept her in the PJ onesies. Not once did anyone say anything to me or my husband about what she was wearing. I dont think its a big deal. but I do recommend, from experience, when you bring LO home, make sure to clean with alcohol, NO ONE told me about this and it helps dry out the stump and keep clean.
Good Luck and congratulations
