DD was breech, resulting in a c/s. My anatomy makes breech presentation a little more common (2 less than average size uteruses) but we've still got the ok to try for a VBAC. Well at my last ultrasound (23 weeks) this baby was breech. I know in theory there's time for her to flip, but DD never did from 22 weeks on. My last OB (not VBAC friendly) was against a version, but my new, VBAC friendly OB is all for it. I'm preparing myself now in case it comes down to it.
Anyone do an external version before? What's it like? Would you do it again? Pros/cons, etc? TIA
Re: Talk to me about external versions
I had an external version and it failed. I also went to the chiropractor to try and get her to turn that way, fail again.
I have to tell you it's not comfortable when they do it, it's like they are trying to turn your stomach around. I had a shot to relax my muscles and they had the operating room ready incase DD went into distress and needed to come out then. It didn't work and then we had to wait for an hour to monitor and make sure DD was still ok. We had to go back in the next day for monitoring again.
I don't think I'd do it again, there is a lower success rate that with chiropractic visits.
I chickened out on having an ecv with my first who was breech. But he would not turn. I ended up with an emergency c/s at 37 weeks for other reasons.
But I've told myself that if this baby is breech and doesn't flip, I'd do one with this baby. I just want a chance at labor. But pp is right in that the success rate isn't great. BUT, after having done literally everything else to get a baby to flip to no avail, I think I would rather go with a 50% success rate and give it my all.
At last check, this baby was breech too. And I'm 29 weeks.
