Survived my first "drinking" situation out!

Whew--I survived my first dinner at a restaurant with family hiding my pregnancy!  Since I am never one to turn down a drink, I didn't want to make an excuse bc I really believe people would catch on to me being pg.

My H and I ordered the same drink, put them next to each other and he just alternated drinking both ours while I picked mine up at random times and took pretend sips.  I don't think anyone noticed but who knows.

Being with everyone made me really excited to share our news with everyone but I cannot trust that my MIL wouldn't get excited and slip/tell extended family.  I don't want our news "out" yet to everyone quite yet.

  • That's really clever!

It always cracks me up reading the creative drinking stories.  I was 20 when I got pg with my first, so I didn't have a problem with that, and then we stopped drinking altogether when he was 1.

  • Cool! I went out with friends last night and my DH kept the cranberry juices with a lime wedge coming. At the end of the night we both had water. I don't think anyone suspected.

  • That's pretty clever!

We just had our annual week-long trip to the beach (aka boozefest) with several friends.  I knew there'd be no way to make excuses the entire time, and they knew we were "trying," so we just went ahead and told everyone.

    I'm a sucky liar anyway.

  • So clever! I'm fine in the group situation at a bar because it's easy to order something that looks like a cocktail but I was nervous about the sit down dinner thing. I have a group dinner with girlfriends next week and I think I'll have to tell- we always share wine and I can't skip without looking suspicious.

Clever!  That would be a great way for me to hide it... if my husband drank alcohol.  Boo.

  • I have that same situation today!  It's both my and my mom's birthdays today and we'll be spending the day with family.  They know I'd never turn down a drink but we're not telling anyone yet so....I'm bringing my own peach lemonade and told my husband to "spike" it with vodka himself all day and to never let me not have a drink in my hand.  Hopefully it works!

  • I went to a friend's birthday party last night.  I was just drinking water.  I let her guess why I wasn't drinking, pregnancy was not her first guess, but she eventually figured out.  She was one of the first people I told last time, so I figured I'd let her know this time too (she's one of my oldest friends, plus she already has 3 kiddos).  No one else said anything.  It's also a good thing I have a beer allergy because it's a lot easier to not drink when everyone else is drinking beer.
