Preferred pocket brands? KaWaii diapers - experiences?

I am going to be a first time cloth diapering mama and need opinions on brands. I think I am going to go with the pocket diapers for ease of use and the supposedly shorter drying time (if anyone has any input here re: AIO/TIO v. pockets, please share). There are so many brands out there I would like to know who likes and doesnt like which brand and why.

Has anyone had any experience with KaWaii diapers? They are so cheap compared to BumGenius and others. I have read/watched great reviews and also seen some not-so-good ones. Mainly people seem to complain about the cheap quality - you get what you pay for? I am wondering if anyone on here has had the same experience.

I have one KaWaii minky and I like it. It is generously sized, so it works well for overnight if you want to stuff with a doubler and maybe increase the snap rise.

A general rule of thumb is not to choose one diapering system before you give it and others a good try. I know I was very surprised by what I ended up liking versus what I thought I would.

That being said, my favorite pockets of the moment are Fuzzibunz Elites because they are super trim and cute.

It's true that AIOs take longer to dry, but if you use the kind that can be turned inside out, this is usually not a problem (for me, at least). Currently, I love Thirsties Duo AIOs. I wash them as is, then I turn them inside-out before tossing them into the dryer and they do just fine.

I do the same for my Ones & Twos (though this is not my favorite diaper because I find the elastic to be rather hard and rigid).

Tots Bots Easy Fits (and Tiny Fits) are my husband's favorite. They're a cross between a pocket and an AIO and the tongue insert agitates out in the wash so they dry just fine. The only reason I am not completely in love with them is that they are not stay-dry, and my daughter doesn't like feeling wet. (However, fleece liners take care of that problem.) Also, the velcro occasionally leaves red marks on her belly.

I like Kawaii for the most part. I don't actually think they seem cheap at all, compared to most diapers you can get for $5-10.

The minky ones I find to be too bulky, but I prefer the blue label over the mom label.

The original square tabs are awesome, and the heavy duty's are great.

I'm not a huge fan of the overnight heavy wetters.

My Kawaii are going strong after a year. I've got square tab in aplix and snap, and some good night heavy wetters. Great quality.

I'm in the minority, but I really didn't like Kawaiis. They always leaked for us.

Other inexpensive pockets include: Imagines, Alvababy, Sunbaby. I love my Imagines and Sunbaby, never used Alvas.

Oh - what I meant to add about my KaWaii is that it is the diaper in my stash that seems to need the most frequent stripping. It gets stinky and starts repelling liquid before any of my other diapers show these signs . . .

I have like 10 Kawaiis and 20 BGs.

I love my Kawaiis. At less than $10.00 a diaper you can't really go wrong so I tried them out. I wish I would have had more them in my stash and not shelled out so much on BGs. Cute patterns, great fit for us and wash well. I don't expect them to last for years and years, but they should get me through 2 kids at least and that's all I ask for the price.

My BGs are great and I have no complaints, but I don't think for the money they're really super high quality. The feel a bit less PUL/plastic like than my Kawaiis, but that doesn't really justify the price.

The only thing I'm not a fan of was the Kawaii Good Night Heavy Wetters. I have two and I don't get the hype...they leak like crazy and are just too large/bulky to fit well. However, I stuff those inserts in a BG for night and we're good to go.

I have one KaWaii, mostly BG and a few prefolds. I love my AIOs. Ive only had the KaWaii 3 weeks but so far nothing bad to report. I am going to buy more to add to my stash soon.

My whole stash is Kawaiis and 1 lone Alva. I have 13 Ultrasoft square tabs and 11 Original square tabs. Regarding the ultrasofts- I'm currently having leaking issues and it's a MAJOR problem, but I think it MAY be b/c LO isn't big enough for them yet (leaking at the leg), she's only around 13 pounds and just built TINY. Other than the leaking, this is my fave diaper- the quality is amazing for the price. The inserts that come with them are about 50% thicker than with the Originals. The Originals currently fit her the best even though they have fewer snap settings. I use the Ultrasoft inserts in them though. The one Alva I have I do like but it isn't built as nicely as the Kawaiis at all. It does the job though for the price, but only comes with one insert instead of 2 like the Kawaiis do, and it's not the greatest insert either. Hope that helps.

Our daytime stash is 100% Kawaiis... Original Square tabs and UltraSofts. I love them and the price. They are less "substantial" than BG's in that the outer feels a little lighter but they also fit differently. BGs were too small in the rise for my son at 7m. Now at 15m, he has tons of growing room in Kawaiis. For night, we use Thirsties Duo AIOs with a cotton doubler.
