Quick question - do you start the timing from when you actually got LO out of the crib, or from when they woke up that morning?
DS woke up around 6am but chilled and chatted to himself in his crib for a good 40 minutes before getting bored and letting me know he was ready for me to get him. I try to nap him no more than 2.5 hours after he wakes up (2 hours seems too soon for him but that would be ideal) but wasn't sure if I should use 6:00 am as his wake up time, or 6:40?
FTR, he went back to sleep at 9:00 so we'll see how this works; just wondering for for future reference.
Re: Timing the 1st nap of the day
I've been working on getting my son to stop waking up super early in the mornings, sobive been pushing him to stay awake a little longer during the day and ignoring any wake ups before 6am if they are happy/quiet. If he's crying my husband goes in and does a check or two.
So to answer your question, I am not counting anything before 6. His first wake time is about 3 hrs so I don't do a nap before 9am no matter what time he woke up that morning. The goal is that it will all work itself out eventually. So far so good.
I wish I could trust his "sleepy" signals but if I did that there would be times he'd go 4 hours before that first nap! So I kind of have to watch the clock with him.
Yeah, the sleepy cues start to get less reliable around this age. A by the clock napping schedule is a great way to go if your LO can tolerate being OT a little at first.
