anyone had thrush and mastitis?

So, a few months ago, I had thrush.  L did not have any symptoms, and I was able to kick it with a bunch of natural remedies my LC recommended.  3 days, ago, I thought I had it again (just in the right breast this time).  L also had terrible diaper rash - I thought it was a yeast rash and that she had thrush as well... pedi said no.  I got a Rx of Diflucan from my OB but she said it could take a week or more to kill the infection.

This afternoon, my skin started feeling tingly (like pins & needles, chills) and I just flat out don't feel good. So now I'm afraid its mastitis, not thrush. Anyone had both and can compare the breast pain?  B/c my breast feels JUST like thrush (stinging, burning, like a shard of glass is stuck in there). I've had plugged ducts before... definitely not this.

Re: anyone had thrush and mastitis?

  • Mastitis for me meant fever, chills, and achiness, like the flu. The infected breast also got red and felt swollen.

Hope you get to the bottom of it. When you do a thing as often as you nurse, it's miserable to have it be uncomfortable!

  • I would get K treated got thrush, too. She can harbor it without having symptoms and keep giving it back to you. Good luck, that sucks.

For me mastitis went from 0-10 on a scale of pain within hours. The slightest bounce hurt...So even walking was painful. And I had a fever of 103. I didn't have thrush, but at hopefully you'll know if you have mastitis. Is it possible that you may have both?

Thanks ladies! Friday night I spiked a fever and had the full on flu-like symptoms, so I started antibiotics and am feeling better this morning! Mkarns - it is possible to have both so I'm continuing to treat the thrush as well (in me and L).
