Question if you failed the 1 hour glucose tolerance test...

If you failed the 1 hour test, did you feel "funny" or different during or after the test?  Did you have any indication that you failed?

I took mine this morning and won't get the results until Monday.  I know a lot of people say they feel funky or sick after the test, but I'm not sure if those are people who go on to pass or fail.  I felt completely normal during and after the test.  I did notice the baby was a little more active toward the end of the hour, but that's the only difference I noted.  It sucks to wait over the weekend, so I'm just looking for some insight.  I have a pretty strong family history of DM, so I won't be surprised if I have to at least take the 3 hour, nor will I be shocked if I do have GD - I just hate the waiting, lol.

I felt awful, and I passed.  There was a thread about this recently on third tri, where a bunch of people had the same experience as me, but the OP of that thread was specifically asking if that happens.  I also know people who felt fine and passed.  Unfortunately you just have to wait it out.

Thanks - I'll venture over to third tri and take a look for that post.

I kind of figured there wouldn't be a clear cut answer, but thought I'd ask just in case.  We have a busy weekend ahead of us, so hopefully Monday comes quickly!

  • I failed the 1 hr and felt fine. I took the 3 hr and felt off but once I ate and drank I felt better but not 100% until the next day. I had to take the 3 hr again one month later (OB's protocol for my BMI) and I felt fine during it, and horrible afterwards.  I ate 3 lunches, drank a ton of water, took at 3 hr nap and took Tylenol for a headache.  I really only felt better the next morning.

When I was pg with DD. I failed 1 hr felt fine. Passed 3 hr and felt fine.

I dont think there is a coloration.  I am like you, I would be searching for one!

  • With DS, I felt perfectly fine/normal, and I passed.

This pregnancy, I felt sick/shaky starting about 45 minutes after I drank the glucola, and I passed.

I don't think there's a correlation between feeling sick and passing/failing the test.

  • Sounds like it's different for everyone.  I failed the 1 hour with a 177 and felt just fine after that one.  However, after drinking the glucola for the 3 hour made me feel HORRIBLE.  Felt like I could have puked it right back up!!!  But I kept it down and passed the 3 hour with great numbers!  I hate the wait too though - had to wait over 4 days to get my results from the 3 hour since my dr was on vacation! GL!

  • I felt fine after my 1 hr with my daughter and passed. This time around I felt fine and failed with a 155. I just did my 3 hr this am and I felt a little icky after taking the glucose but by the third hour felt okay except being exhausted. I came home and took a 2 hr nap. Good luck!

  • I felt fine during both the 1 hr and 3 hr and I failed both.

  • Nope had no idea that I failed...I felt kind of light headed and dizzy after taking the drink, but that could also be because I was fasting. But I passed my 3 hour test (and felt even worse after taking that, if possible!), so fingers crossed that if you failed the 1 hour, you'll pass the 3 hour!

  • with DS i felt fine after the 1 hour and failed.  I felt awful after the 3 hour and passed.

This time I also felt fine after the 1 hr and failed...3 hour is next week

  • I failed my 1 hour test by 2 points and felt fine during and after it. I took my 3 hour one yesterday and felt fine during it, after the last blood draw I was fine until about 45 minutes later. I went to lunch and started sweating like crazy and drank tons of water. I didn't think that I was going to pass out, but I didn't feel like myself. I won't find out until Monday if I passed that one.
  • I can't believe they make you wait all weekend!  My doctor (ok, doctor's assistant) called a few hours later to let me know the results.  I'd go crazy if not...

I felt nauseated after drinking the 1hr test, but just because of the sugar overload.  It depends on how much sugar you normally ingest I think.  The first 1/3 or so of the drink I was fine, because that's my normal intake.  It was the rest of it that made me feel like I was back in morning-sickness days.

I don't think how you feel after has anything to do with passing or failing.  Unless you go into a diabetic coma, that'd probably be a good sign that you failed.  But I'm sure you're fine.  :)

  • I felt normal, and I failed with a 134.  My office considers 130 failing.  I took it on a Saturday and results were posted online within hours, kind of sucks because I want to talk to my midwife about it instead of agonizing over failing all weekend!
  • I felt great, the drink went down easy and didn't make me sick at all. Then I found out I failed.... ugh, but passed the 3 hour test and that made me feel awful..

  • Thanks for all the input.  I found out this afternoon that I failed the 1 hour.  I completely forgot to ask what my number was, so I have no idea if I was just over the cut off or if I was way above - doesn't matter though, I have to call tomorrow to schedule my 3 hour.
