This tragedy is CO has me glued to the tv. I admittedly also have a morbid curiosity with events like this (Columbine, 9/11, etc). The more I find out about what happened, the more I have to know what kind of sick fukc would do such a thing. It sucks that our kids will grow up in a world where this isn't so uncommon anymore.
Re: I can't stop watching the news
I'm in CO and I'm following the news on facebook but can't bring myself to actually turn the TV on
I watched like crazy during the wildfires, but this is totally different

Smilelari, if you can't turn the tv on to hear about what happened, don't do it for a while. The witnesses accounts of their experiences are hard to watch.
I have a friend who's husband is a police officer in Aurora and responded to the scene.
Yeah, I think I'll not turn on the TV

Dude is a freaking idiot. He is getting a PHD in neuroscience, looks like a nymph, and calls himself "the joker'. Someone should have just strung him up on scene. "Man who allegedly shot and killed 12 people my ass". You were all there. He did it. You saw him. Let's not waste our time and money.
Ugh makes me sick... "killer not cooperating with police". No shi8. If he shoots and kills 12 people in the open and got caught doing it, why would he?
I know exactly what you mean. It broke my heart watching to find out what had happened during 9/11. I had to stop or I'd go crazy with not being able to do anything to help. I've learned not to turn on the TV for these kind of sad situations.
Agreed!
I'm more shocked about the family that brought their 4 year old and their 3 month old. During the shooting the father became panicked, laid the baby on the ground, ran out of the theater and drove away without his family. No excuse.
my read shelf:
?? The family with the baby and 4 yr old was just on Dateline. He didn't drive away.
Yeah I was just watching Dateline and I didn't see anything about him driving away either... ? Maybe that came from a rumor mill?
Just found this. They totally didn't discuss this in the a dateline interview.

There was a news article circulating from abc saying that she had to call him to come pick them up after they made it out of the theater.

This is the story https://news.yahoo.com/couple-colo-theater-shooting-escape-baby-toddler-tow-162024554--abc-news-topstories.html
His girlfriend called him from someone else's phone and he drove back to theater.
my read shelf:
Oh man. What a guy... I hope deep down that that's a typo and he was just somewhere outside the theater and didn't drive off. But even then, he still left the baby on the floor....
He does not deserve to be a parent! Your NUMBER ONE priority when you become a parent is your child's safety. This is the first I've heard of the other children in the theater. But still, this is the kind of movie that gives kids nightmares. You're just selfish in taking your kids to this kind of movie. There was one couple that didn't go because they couldn't find a babysitter at the last minute.
While I wouldn't bring my child to a theatre, and I certainly wouldn't leave him in this situation, I don't agree with the people blaming the parents for this. Not saying that you are making this argument, but people are going as far to say that the parents are to blame for their infant getting hurt. Ummm.... ok because I'm pretty sure that if they knew there was going to be a shooter in the theatre they wouldn't have gone!
I see what you're saying, but I'm in no way blaming the parent for the actions taken by the shooter. I'm just trying to figure out why parents think it's a good idea to bring their young children, who can't understand what is real and was isn't at this young age, to this type of movie. If they were seeing a children's movie I wouldn't have a problem with it. Also, young children need to be in bed at midnight, not on a date with mom and dad. It is very selfish of them to have had the kids there at all for the type of movie being seen and at that late hour, IMO.
And since the father left his baby on the floor when he high-tailed it out of there, yeah he is 100% to blame for that child getting hurt. If you can't handle getting your kid out of a bad situation when you do everything to get yourself out of a bad situation, you ARE a bad parent and child services should look into the way you parent. No parent that I know of would ever lay their child down on the floor and proceed to leave the scene without them.
Oh I don't disagree with him being a horrible father and the parents having questionable parenting "skills". If DH pulled that crap in the theatre, once I got the kids out he would have to worry about ME more than any shooter. I just have issue with other people acting like the fact that they brought the kids into the theatre (regardless of what the dad did) meant that they were at fault for the shooting. Like I said, I know you didn't say that but what I have seen on other websites is disguisting
Ah I see. I was wondering if you were meaning this thread. Yeah there's no one to blame for the shooter's actions but himself. I really hope justice is served and we don't have another ending like we did with the Gabby Giffords shooting in AZ. Didn't that guy just go to a "facility" for the rest of his life? I think these shooters know enough of what they're doing to go to regular ole prison. Or the chair...
