I'm having a lot of fun reading the posts from other groups and they really do seem pretty dumb BUT I will say this:
Some docs really do tell you these things and people simply like to believe what the doc says.
I was told at 11w4d when I had the scan done that she was 80% sure it was a girl. Now I thought to myself right away that she is full of $hit and wasn't about to go buy anything pink..
An older doc also did one of my checkups once and while listening to the doppler he asked if we knew what we were having, when I said "yes a girl" (this was after my 20w US) he said, "Yeah I think that is right, her heart rate is pretty high which most often indicates a girl"
So why on earth are the docs this dumb to say something that ridiculous! In that way you can't blame expecting women to believe it LOL
Re: At times the docs are to blame!
I agree and it's sad that people can't think that far. We had the sex confirmed 3 times after 20 w and it was "quite obvious" at the time and we still didn't buy anything girly until DD was born and we saw "it" with our own eyes lol
The docs should however still be a bit more careful with what they say. I mean they are professionals and shouldn't be saying anything that's based on an old wive's tales and assume everyone is intelligent enough to know it's not accurate. It makes them seem clueless, too don't you think?
