Pregnant after a Loss

Has anyone taken unisom for bad nausea? Any other tips for nausea?

I'm so so happy to be on this board after 2 losses.  I am about 6 1/2 weeks along and have been to the doctor twice so far which everything looks ok.  My doctor recommended B6 and unisom for the nausea.  I just started to get really nauseated and tired over the past few weeks and have tried ginger tea, peppermint candy, lemonade and sprite.  I did throw up yesterday for the first time.  I want to eat good healthy foods but for some reason I have a hard time thinking about food.  I just eat what ever I can handle.  I know nausea and fatigue are common but its hard to have to work when I feel this bad.  Any tips from you ladies would be greatly appreciated!

  • I am currently taking Unisom and B6.  When I first started taking Unisom, I took it at night and it would help with nausea for the majority of the following day.  On Monday my OB said to take it in the morning with B6 and it completely knocks me out.  So, I am switching to Unisom at night and B6 in the morning, hopefully that will help.

I also have Zofran for days that Unisom wears off earlier than usual.  Zofran did not work very well alone for me and caused awful constipation.  Some women swear by phenegren (spelling?) but it didn't do crap for me.

My nausea tends to be worst when I am hungry, so I keep snacks with me.  Goldfish, applesauce and jolly ranchers have helped a lot.

  • Yes!  I started it this week.  I take 1 Unisom at night - get the tablets, NOT the geltabs.  In the morning, I take 100mg of B6.  Supposedly you should take 3-4 25mg doses but I could only find 100mg.  It's been helping tremendously.  I take Benadryl during the day and it doesn't make me as tired but takes the edge off.

Just out of curiosity why tablets, not gel tabs?

    It's a different ingredient.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxylamine

That is very interesting.  My Dr. never clarified so DH just bought the gel tabs for me.  Typically I prefer those because they are easier to swallow.

This is what I did, but usually I forgot to take the B6. Even the half tab of Unisom at night did wonders for my nausea.
