Petty vent and wwyd

About 6 months ago, during the worst of my health problems, we decided to hire a cleaning service once a month.  They do a really thorough job and I've had no complaints until this week.  I looked closely at my stove today and the area around the stove dials (which is stainless steel) is all scratched up.  Part of the numbers, etc are scratched off.  It's clear someone took a Brillo pad or something and scratched the hell out of it instead of using stainless steel cleaner.  I am so unbelievably ticked off.  I realize it's really petty and stupid especially in the larger scheme of things.  But, it was in perfect condition before and we are starting to think of putting our house on the market.  It's a very expensive and nice range and now it looks damaged.  I'd rather they would have broken something I owned.

I may or may not be pms'ing as well.  Sigh

Wwyd?  Fire the cleaners?  Give them a second chance with clear instructions on cleaning?  I'm leaning towards firing them but that may be because I am super cranky.

You see if they'll pay for repair of it.

I thought of that, too, but didn't want to be punitive.  I know my DH is going to say to just forget about it cause that's the way he is.  But I don't want to forget about it.

This for sure.  They should pay to have the damaged parts replaced.  If not, or if they hide behind fine print in an agreement then I'd find new cleaners.

I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.

    Yup.
  • I'd make a complaint with the manager and then fire them.
  • I should add that I'm cranky as well. Lol

  • I'd fire them after they replaced it.   But I'm also in a bad mood

  • Well, as I may be the only one who isn't cranky, I'd say to have a discussion about it with them.  When I noticed scratches on the top of my new tv stand, I told our cleaning woman to be careful when she's dusting.  I reminded her that all of the items (clock and pictures) have to completely be taken off the stand.  The clock has particularly pointy legs, and you have to be VERY careful when you move it.

If you're using an agency, they might provide reimbursement so it can't hurt to ask.  I use a private woman, so I also feel more loyal to her.  She also broke a lampshade but I let that one slide.

It's not an agency.  It's a woman and her assistants.  She rarely cleans my place.  Usually it's a couple of assistants.  She does a great job but my neighbor said she had a couple new assistants this week.  I wasn't actually home.

  • It's definitely not punitive...they did actual damage. I too would be pissed and would definitely say something. If they don't pay for the damages, I'd fire them, but I too am in a pissy mood...especially because of that $64 ticket I got today. grrrr!!!

  • I would first bring it to their attention & see what they say. If they're apologetic, then I'd just give them more specific instructions for the future. If they're defensive or clueless about it, then I would part ways.

I'm not even sure how you would determine the cost of reimbursement for something like that? Would they wave the cost of a cleaning session or something, or would you get an estimate for repairs & then send them the bill?

I was just going to say Griff 2.0 is almost here!!

That really sucks, Cheekers.  I'd make a complaint to the owner.  If bonded, she should pay to fix it.

  • I am not sure if you are aware, but you can order those parts online. I don't know which brand your stainless steel appliances are from, but you can go onto the company website & order replacement parts/knobs there. If you can't find them online for whatever reason you can just as easily call the company & they more than likely will ship them out to you.

Those are fairly inexpensive to replace. I would just send the cleaning the receipt & have them reimburse me from that.

  • I also wanted to add that if you had warranty on them those items are usually covered too.
