Re: what am i doing wrong?

  • My DD fights naps too.

I actually find that I just put her down asleep, like this morning I put her in her swing, where she napped for an hour. Some days I may get 30 minutes out of her. If the world around her is more exciting, she won't nap. Maybe hold her longer, or just put her in the swing, pnp or crib awake.

How often does she nap a day? And for how long usually??

that's my problem, i don't relaly know b/c it's been a fight for the last few days (other than 24 hrs after her shots). i spent 40 minutes rocking her. i do put her down awake and she falls asleep at night no problem. at nap time it's like she knows we're all still awake so she doesn't wanna go to sleep. she will fuss and fuss and eventually start crying. i don't want her napping in her swing every day. once in a while is fine but i don't want her to get used to that.

i guess if she naps good she will take about 3-4 naps at 45-90 minutes long.

  • Have you read any sleep books? It's too early for you to do sleep training (and that's not my thing anyway) but I found Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child to be excellent information. I understand the science of sleep better now.

  • There's no such thing as "normal sleep schedule" for the first 3m or so.

Accept this, make peace with the fact that your baby is acting normally, and you'll be much happier.

  • It seems like around 2 months, my LO changed from napping all the time to having tons more awake time. It's taken a while, but now she's becoming more predictable and takes 1 longer nap and 2 shorter naps per day. So it sounds like your LO is behaving normally.

If you know she is tired (she is showing signs of tiredness) then she may be OVER tired.  Try putting her down a little earlier.
