Hi ladies, I'm usually on The Nest on the D&R board. However, I'm throwing a baby shower this fall for my BFF and wanted some advice. I figured there's not better place to come accept you ladies! She's the first of our friends to have a baby. So while I've been to several baby showers, I've never really thrown one. And on that note, I haven't been to one in almost 3 years.. So I don't know what's cool! So... my questions:
Is a 1:00 shower appropriate? I obviously want to avoid meal time. So I'm kind of between 1:00 and 2:00. Is that normal? Good?
Has anyone done the "onesie decorating" activity at a shower? Was it fun? And do you mothers actually use them or anything? Just curious. Not set on this activity.
Any other earth shattering advice you all could give me on baby showers in general? I'm the go-to bridal shower girl so I'm fairly confident. Just trying to think of specific things to baby showers. Thank you!
Re: Lurking over to ask: anyone have onesie decorating at shower? And other shower questions!
1:00pm seems like a great time.
We did onesie decorating at my sisters shower and at my shower. I think it was fun, other people had fun doing it. I do really use them. The cute ones we use and onesies, some of the not so cute ones are used as pajamas. Get packs of different size onesies.
Hi there! My shower given by my sister in-laws hosted it at 1pm and had snacks and drinks for everyone, as well as cupcakes
My sister in law had it at her shower, her host had set up a table in another room so guests were able to decorate whenever they felt like it. I would get different sizes and have items such as markers, paint, glitter..etc.
Oh another tip to help mother to be ..have a raffle you can ask each guests to bring a pack of diapers, size doesn't matter and at the end of party, whoevers name you pick wins gets a prize or something (usually a gift card)..it will help mom in the long run.
A 1:00 time is a good time.
We had a onesie decorating at my shower. My sister said it was rather expensive buying all the onesies and I had a lot of plain white ones too. My guests had a lot of fun decorating them and they came out so cute! I use them for regular outfits or for pajamas.

Yuck...it's like charging admission to do that.
I'd personally vote against doing decorated onesies...most of them are ugly and other baby clothes are just so darn cute. I guess they make great undershirts if the baby is born in winter.
At my SIL's shower, they had a picture of her and my brother printed in black & white on a regular sheet of paper. Each guest cut out pieces of her or him to determine what the baby would look like. They glued it onto paper plates. Cut out her hair, his eyes, etc.
ETA: I'd actually do a little later if you wanted to avoid a meal time. 1:00 doesn't tell me automatically that there won't be a meal. I'd make it 2:00.
To keep it short, my sister threw me a onesie decorating shower. It was an open house so people could come and go between 2-5. It worked out perfect. This way my sis didn't have to by paint/supplies for everyone to use at once. She had the perfect amount for up to 6 people to work at once. Also, she bought/made stencils for guests to use. She also found a way for guests to use freezer paper (I think) to make their own stencils. She also bought some type of press on stickers and patches.
I LOVE the onesies I have from the party. Since they are all in different sizes, I get to remember them as I go. Here is a pic that my sister made. My hubby is a firefighter.

1:00 seems fine to me as well. I think that might be what time ours was and it was fine.
We did onesie decorating at my shower and there were good and bad points. I bought onesies in many different sizes, so as my LO has gotten bigger, I get to pull out the onesies i've forgotten about it and it's nice to look at and remember. some people made really nice onesies and she actually wears these ones. other people... well, if we're lucky we could salvage some as undershirts. also, if you anticipate having a lot of children at the shower, this may not be the activity for you. i only had TWO little girls at my shower and they took over the onesie decorating and made about 10 onesies each. I guess we should've had someone watching over the decorating station (or people watching their own kids?) because i would've rather had a couple left over plain white onesies as opposed to many decorated ones that i just threw out. Seven year old girls really go all out with the glitter. lol. They also got it all over my staircase!
So, anyway, as an activity for adults, you will probably get some cute onesies. If you're inviting kids, I'd think twice.
We asked people to bring a baby book instead of a card for the baby & that went over really well. People told me they enjoyed picking out a book and i love reading the messages inside each one when i read to my DD.
