Benefit of travel system over snap-in frame thing?

Yes, snap-in frame thing is the technical term. ;-)

We're set on the Key Fit 30, but are debating between the Caddy (frame thingee) and the full travel system.

Honestly, I'm leaning towards the frame, unless there's some amazing benefit to the travel system that I'm overlooking. Since we're FTParents that is a definite possibility.

Thoughts? Experiences?

  • I love the Chicco Key Fit car seat but really dislike the full stroller. It's bulky, heavy, and though it does fold up easily it's pretty big for a single stroller. A lot of people on this board agree. So I wouldn't recommend the whole system.

The only issue with the caddy is that it only works with the infant seat from what I'm aware of, so after your LO is out of the infant seat you can't really use it. I would opt for a less expensive caddy than the Chicco brand, and then get a lightweight stroller that you can use more long term.

  • I got a travel system with DD and rarely used the stoller. I found it much easier to use the infant seat with a snap-n-go and then an umbrella stroller. The big stroller was just a pain! I didn't use it at all with DS and don't plan to use it with this new baby.

  • IMO the snap n go followed by a great lightweight stroller is better. The "advantage" of a travel system is that you get a stroller that can be used when the infant seat is outgrown, but most people I've known who got travel systems ended up replacing the stroller with either a maclaren or chicco lightweight/umbrella type stroller after a few months because the travel systems are so bulky and unwieldy.

  • Absolutely go with the Keyfit Caddy (snap & go frame)! Then like the other pp's suggested, get a lightweight stroller of your choosing later. The travel system strollers are bulky and take up your entire trunk, and I have a full size car! If you are going to get a big stroller, at least get a great quality one like a BOB or Uppa Baby Vista.

  • I got the Keyfit (love it!), but opted to get the less expensive universal Snap N Go frame. It cost less than half of the Chicco Caddy and works great. We have a City Mini as our "real " stroller. We use it now as well, in the fully reclined position.

  • Thanks for all your feedback. :-)

Does the car seat really snap well into the Snap and Go frame? I like that it's less, but I also like that the Caddy felt so secure when we played with it in the store. And, it was super-easy to open/shut.

  • I don't know about the snap n go frame, but we have the chicco system and I LOVE it. I have a Tahoe though, so space isn't an issue. I don't find it to be all that mich bigger than other full size strollers, and it also fits in the trunkof my husband's Honda Accord with room to spare. The area around our house it very hilly, and I was surprised at how nice it rides and how light it is to push. It's also the easiest to open/close, which was huge for me as my hands are very weak, and when we tried most other strollers, I wasn't even able to operate them.
  • We have a travel system and I dont love the stroller. Wish I had a nicer full size stroller. It has a good amount of space for things, and it has held up for over two years, but I think I am done with it.
