This is so awful. All of those people thinking they were going to have a great night watching a movie and then this happens. So sad. It makes me want to put LO in a bubble and never let him out of the house.
Im listening to Kiis FM Ryan Seacrest right now and he is interviewing a gentleman that lives in the area and his voice just sounds so sad and upset. The suspect is only 24 years old. How the hell does a 24 year old boy do this?? What makes his brain snap and go and do this??? i just dont understand.....
It's awful that this is what we seem to wake up to on a very regular basis. Hearing about these things makes me want to keep my LOs in a little bubble. Truely awful.
It makes me so sad, my heart goes out to them. I still haven't heard back from a friend that lives in the area (I'm sure they weren't at the premiere, but I just wanted to see how she is doing). So sad.
I agree, *inserting DS into bubble*. Makes me so sad that something as harmless as going to the movies can turn into such a nightmare.
So so so tragic. Poor families and victims. Lives forever changed....
Not to sound snarky in ANY way, but what the h*** were all those kids doing at an extremely violent movie premiere? Not to mention that it was midnight.... Perhaps those poor children wouldn't have been injured if mommy and daddy had their thinking caps on.... Horrible.

Yeah I don't think the fact that parents brought young children is relevant at all. It's summer, no school and the movie isn't rated R. Its a movie theater FFS. That's like saying that if a mother gets in a car accident with her child in the car, it her fault for letting her kid in the car.

No, it's nothing like a car accident.
Your job as a parent is to make decisions based on the best interest of your child. Even if a shooting hadn't occurred, which is clearly a terrible terrible crime and nothing anyone should ever have to endure (especially a parent or small child), the best interest of a 3month old baby and a 6 year old is not to be up all night seeing a violent film.
Being R or not has nothing to do with the time of the movie. Also, I believe the film is PG13. It makes no sense as to why a 6 year old should see a movie that is only approved for an older audience.
Clearly, I offended you. That is fine. I think what happened is extremely tragic and I truly feel sorry for all parties involved. However, you cannot argue that it was a lapse in judgement on the parent's part for even taking them in the first place.

I just think you're concentrating on the wrong person to blame. You're worried about a parent bringing a 3month old to a movie who may very well sleep through it...not the psychopath with the gun. Im sure the parents of the 16 year olds are blaming theselves too, in fact I'm sure everyone there was wishing they had been somewhere else.
And a pg13 movie means parental guidance for anyone under 13.. And that parents of a 6 year old were doing just that. Would I bring my kid to a midnight showing of batman? Probably not, but in such a tragedy, I feel like that's the last thing to worry about. And btw I'm sure the parents of the columbine kids were sure they were sending their kids to a safe place the morning they went to school. Midnight at a movie theater or in the middle of a school day. This crap can happen anywhere.

I never said that the gunman wasn't to blame. I said the kids shouldn't have been there in the first place. Have you ever been to a midnight premiere? They are MADNESS! People running around all over the place, super crowded, really loud, etc. My point was that kids shouldn't be out until 2 am seeing violence. I would have side-eyed that at anytime. It has nothing to do with the shooting. The shooting itself was a terrible and unthinkable crime (which I have stated only about 100000000xs in these posts). This is a completely separate issue about having kids out too late and seeing violence. I don't mind the 3 month old out in the middle of the night as much as I mind the 6 year old. The 3 month old is probably up at 3 am anyway and can't understand violence. But a 1st grader seeing all that? No way.

But is it really necessary to judge the victims and victims' families when it has NOTHING to do with these senseless killings?

I would side eye anyone who would take a 6 year old to see a violent movie from midnight to 2am. Sorry. I think it's putting your own desires above what is appropriate for your child.
For the last time, I never said I didn't think it was a horrific situation. I'm having a separate issue with parents taking kids out too late to see a stinkin' movie. A movie- really? You're going to subject your kids to violence and throw off their sleep cycle for a movie? Big deal- see it tomorrow at an appropriate hour and get a babysitter if your kid isn't old enough to attend with you!
So so so tragic. Poor families and victims. Lives forever changed....

Rachel5782, I agree 100%...
Magnolia, It is not relevant. If you want to start a separate thread to address proper parenting, then fine.
Saying the parents could have avoided the situation is in part blaming them. It is really sad that you immediately turn to a holier than thou attitude.
Focus on the tragedy. Perhaps pray for the family, or wish them justice and a quick recovery, instead of doing what you know you did.
Many T&P's to the people that were there.

When the media repeatedly brings up the youngest victims age, it becomes relevant. I srsly doubt Magnolia or myself werent the only ppl to think WTH was a 6 YO doing at a midnight violent movie premiere. The batman movies are intense. I wouldn't let my 13 YO see them. But I'd like to not be up all with a child having nightmares so maybe that's just me. Magnolia reapeatedly stated that the situation is tragic. But like her anyone who has their kindergarten age children out at midnight anywhere deserves a sideeye. I judge the parents with their kids at walmart at midnight as well. Parents need to stop being so damn selfish & put their kids best interest first. An action movie at midnight =/= 6 YOs best interest. Holier than thou or not, it is what it is.
Wow. I cannot imagine my first instinct being to put my 4 month old on te floor where he could easily be trampled and running out by myself. No f-ing way. He couldn't get back to him?!? I would seriously consider leaving any man who reacted that way.

I read the article to MH earlier and he told me to divorce him if he ever did something like that.

Ok, so I wasn't misunderstanding this? The tool put his 4 mos old on the ground & ran like a little B? Srsly? I have not one doubt in my mind that DH would die defending our son without thinking twice, as would I. It's instinct. I cannot wrap my mind around this. & he's going in front of media admitting this!? Wow, just wow. I hope she leaves his sorry ass.

I guess I am the "wrong" one with a holier than thou attitude because I would not take my 6 year old (which is a 1st grader!!!) to see an extremely violent movie until 2:30 in the morning. WOW. Just WOW.
I believe the phrase you meant to use is called common sense. I have enough common sense to not take my kids out at all hours of the night. You may call that holier than thou or whatever you wish, but I call it common sense.
And for the millionth time, I never said it wasn't a tragedy or that I wasn't grieving for these families. You clearly did not read my posts.
I saw in a report earlier that he proposed to her while they were in the hospital...she said yes.
You're kidding. I mean I understand fight or flight and people do weird things in stressful situations but my husband would be well, I don't know what I would really do but definitely would have visions of cutting his balls off.
Re: Colorado Shooting :(
Someone at work just told me the 3M old wasn't injured but was sent to the hospital for observation..not sure if that's accurate.
Yes, they just said on CNN the 3 month old was ok.
The whole thing is just awful though.
