TTC - self-employed with no maternity insurance

We are trying to conceive, and I have regular 'ol basic health insurance. There is a possibility I may be applicable for medicaid, as I am a cash only business open during summers only. I've been told to look into Disability insurance..? Also sounds like I need some sort of coverage a YEAR before conceiving?! What if I'm already pregnant?! Dot thousands of women have unexpected pregnancies every day??

What the heck am I to do here, I don't want to end up payin thousands to have a baby! Help!!

Re: TTC - self-employed with no maternity insurance

  • If you purchase private insurance, then yes, you do have to wait a year before maternity benefits kick in. If you become pregnant and have no insurance, you can go to the PAC Clinic (prentice ambulatory clinic) based at Northwestern Memorial and they will apply for Moms and Babies for you. Or you can do so yourself online, and try other clinics affiliated with other hospitals. The coverage is 100% as long as you go to their clinic.
