Ultrasound gender curiosity

I am curious as to what the earliest is that I can find out what gender my baby is..Originally I had thought it was 20 weeks, but I am seeing more and more that says 16 weeks...Can anybody help me with this question? My SO and myself are so very eager to find out what our little one is so we can start planning further! Thanks!

After 18 weeks is the most accurate.

I'm going for an elective ultrasound at 16W to find out gender - I will obviously have them confirm at my 20W anatomy scan though!

Even if they tell you at 16 weeks I personally wouldn't buy anything pink or blue until after the a/s. A number of women are told correctly as early as 13 weeks but I'd be cautious.

This. I wouldn't trust anything before 18 weeks. Just in case...

I was 14 weeks when I found out with DD, and it was confirmed about 18 or 19 weeks when I went for the anatomy scan. At any point, it depends on if the baby "shows off" per say

My OB told me I could find out at 18 weeks!! :DD

I just found out at 16 weeks, and it was very obvious she was a girl. Of course we will be confirming at our 20 week a/s but I would say 16 weeks should be the bare minimum in putting any stock behind what they tell you.

I'm hoping to get an idea or guess at my ultrsound nxt wk i will be 16 weeks then around 20 weeks i will want to check again for accuracy!!! so i think anywhere possible between 16 wks is the earliest!!

Me too. I have an ultrasound on July 31 and I am curious to what their guess will be!

16 weeks is a good time. I know there are elective U/S places that guarantee gender at 14 weeks, but I wouldn't trust it too much.

Technically, after birth is most accurate.

I'm finding out tomorrow, at 15 weeks. I'm going to a Perinatal High Level Clinic where I did my nuchal translucency exam and genetic counseling and where I will do my official anatomy scan at 21 weeks.

The elective gender ultrasound tomorrow is $64. They give a refund of $250 if they are wrong. To date, they haven't ever had to give the refund. I just plan on keeping receipts for anything I buy between now and then so if I need to return them, I can.

We are really excited about finding out tomorrow!

This. I wouldn't trust anything before 18 weeks. Just in case...

I agree. I've heard plenty of people say it was confirmed at the a/s a few weeks later. I've heard of others, including a really close friend, who were incorrectly told the sex before 18 weeks. So, while you may find out at a 16 week appointment, I wouldn't go buy Baby's wardrobe until it's confirmed a few weeks later.

My A/S is scheduled for 17.5 weeks---I have to go to a high risk doctor for that and with DD they did it at 18 weeks and did 3D/4D as well which made it even more clear so I'm sure it will be obvious at our A/S this time too.

Well they do have a 50-50 chance of guessing correctly.....

I have an aunt that has been right on every pregnancy of my cousins.... like 8 times in a row she has been right. Does that mean I would trust her to tell me what I am having....obviously not.

If you don't wish to have an early anatomy scan, don't. It's not up to me whether or not you choose to, but I did and I'm very happy I did.

The scan was clear as day.

Now being at 16 weeks, and knowing that I only have a few weeks to go before finding out the gender, I am so excited! Can the type of food you crave tell you what gender it is? I am wanting a lot of sweets and normally I don't really eat stuff like that. My last pregnancy I had no cravings except pickles and I had a boy. I am really hoping for a girl this time! Is there a percentage of how women carry the baby, like high or low that can possibly determine the sex of the baby as well? Thank you to everybody who has answered my question. I appreciate it so much.
