C-sections

RCS 13 months after 1st C/S?

Anyone have a RCS relatively soon after a first c/s? DD1 was breech and I had a scheduled c/s. It ended up being a easier recovery than I expected. We got pregnant more quickly than planned and now this baby's breech, too. I haven't felt her flipping around at all. It's like she's firmly planted head-up. So now I'm preparing myself for another c/s, but I'm brokenhearted (for many reasons). I'm mostly concerned with how it will be taking care of my 13 month old. DH will take some time off to be with us and my mom will help a lot. I'm just worried that DD1 won't understand why I can't pick her up or hold her as easily as I currently am (and it's already starting to be a struggle).

Anyone BTDT in a similar situation and have it turn out okay?

Re: RCS 13 months after 1st C/S?

  • I had mine a little under 13 months apart. I had a god-awful recovery with my second (and it had nothing to do with sections close together, just a series of bad luck) and even then it was still manageable. My DH was home for the first couple of weeks which was a necessity I think. DS did fine without being picked up by me. DH was able to do that and we just snuggled a lot on the couch and he watched entirely too much tv, but we all lived to tell the tale. Honestly, I think my DS being so young helped immensely. He had lots of fun playing with his dad and he was still relatively new to walking so he was content to explore and play with toys and couldn't have cared less that I lied on the couch snuggling the baby all day. The first week DH went back to work was tough but we managed. I just limited picking him up--I let him eat his meals out of his high chair, he napped on the couch snuggled up to baby and me instead of putting him in a bed. Honestly, even with the pain I have really fond memories of those early days snuggled up on the couch with both of them napping on me.

I didn't think there was any option besides a rcs with only 13 months in between sections regardless if the baby is breachor not.  Was your doctor open to a vbac?

Some doctors will let you VBAC with births that close together. Mine is very pro-vbac and pushed for me to try, but since I didn't go into labor naturally and he wasn't comfortable with induction medication I ended up with a RCS. I'm sure it depends on how your first surgery went/how your second pregnancy goes though, of course.

Thank you! This makes me feel like it's a lot more doable. :)
