Working moms, come in

Was it tough for your older child to transition after you went back to work?

My DD is now used to me being home and I'm nervous about her reaction once I go back in 2 1/2 weeks.

Re: Working moms, come in

  • For my first three kids I worked PT, and brought my kids to work, so when I transitioned to working FT, and leaving them at home, they were NOT happy to say the least.  Days that they were still asleep when I left went better in the beginning (out of sight out of mind) but if they were awake there were tears as I left every morning.  It got better as time went by and now (most of the time) it's happy hugs and kisses and "I'll see you before dinner".  GL on going back to work!

  • My DD is very laid back and has transitioned just fine.  She has gone from being at home with my mom, to having a babysitter, to daycare, to me home on ML, to having grandmom home with her again.  There's always a bit of an adjustment period but it goes fine.  I kept talking to her about how exciting it was that she was going to get to play with grandmom every day when mommy went to work.

  • My daughter was hppy to go back to daycare after my maternity leave for #2. I, however, had a terrible, terrible time going back to work after #2, and it was mainly because I missed DD1. Leaving a baby is much easier IMO, since they mainly sleep and cry, whereas leaving my fun, interactive, and goofy 14 month old when I'd been enjoying taking her to playdates and storytimes was very hard.
