Baby Showers

Too early?

I am high risk so I am not allowed to travel after Oct (I'm due in Dec) So I am having 2 out of town showers both of which will have to be in Sept since I can't travel.  I've been told that that will be too early and I won't be big yet, but I don't really have any other options, this is my first baby after 2 miscarriages, so I'm not going to risk anything.  Does this sound crazy?  To have a shower in Sept if not due til Dec?  Will people think it's too early and not come?

  • Do you know how much easier and more fun it will be before you get 'big'?  I had a shower at 36 weeks and I was exhausted half way through, plus I still had to pack up my gifts and drive 2 hrs home.

Have it when ever you want, it's your shower.

  • Who is saying you should be "big"?! Reinforces my fear that showers are at least partially about people wanting to gawk at giantly pregnant chicks as if they were sideshow freaks.

I think that is a perfect time and not too early! Don't stress it!

  • You're high risk and has 2 miscarriages and someone is more concerned that you won't be big yet????  Are you kidding me?

Of course your and the babies health is what matters.  Not how big you are.  People will come and will be thrilled to see you in September.

This. I think any "rules" concerning timing go out the window if you're high risk!!

  • I am also high risk since I am having twins and I had my shower at 26 weeks.  Now, I didn't have any trouble with "showing", but I don't think that matters.  What matter is the health of you and your baby.  Anyone who has an issue with that is just being ridiculous.

  • I'm not high risk but already have plans to be back home in Florida in early December and I'm fully intending to have my shower then though I'm not due till the end of February. People who don't live near you should be happy to see you and celebrate your LO *whenever* you can be there.

  • I think it is fine.  Traveling will always be easier the earlier you go.

  • No this is perfect. I agree with you and it is not too early in your case. If your friends and family know the trouble and things you have went through I think they will understand.

  • Wow, I could have written this post! I am in the EXACT same situation!  I will be having 2 showers in September (on consecutive weekends in different towns) because I cannot travel any later. I don't think it is too early at all!

  • My shower is end of August and it's because that's the only date that works. I was debating whether it's too early, but now I think who cares?
