Cleaning Service ?

Hello ladies! Sorry I havent been on in awhile but being on my phone or computer for a certain amount of time has been making me nauseous :(   I hope everyone is doing good and I hope to be back on soon.

On to my question..... For those that use or have used a cleaning service do you tip them when they are done? I have 2 ladies coming out this afternoon and I'm not sure what the protocol is for tipping, if I do or don't. I have only had one come out in the past when I was preg with K but I don't remember if I tipped her or not. If you do tip how much do you usually tip?

Re: Cleaning Service ?

  • It is a cleaning service, like The Maids or Merry Maids? Or just two people who own their own business?  I do not tip my housekeeper because she just does it on her own, so obviously she keeps all the money I give to her.  But I think if I was to hire a service like Merry Maids, I would give 5-10 dollars to each person as a token of appreciation.

  • It's through a service! That is kind of what I was thinking a few dollars but wasn't sure. I have a friend that uses a cleaning service, different company, and she said she doesn't tip but she is cheap. I wanted to see what other people do. I don't want to be rude and not tip if it's something they expect. My house isn't that bad, I actually did a big clean last night so they would see a huge mess, I know silly right. I did however make some cookies they can have and ice tea.

  • We use a service, usually have the same person, and I don't tip.  Usually they want to get in & get out, and they might decline your snacks, but it's a nice gesture.  I do give a nice Christmas bonus though.

I will see how they work out before I decide to keep using them but a nice Xmas bonus is a good idea. Well I made the cookies for dh last night and the tea for me but I fig I would offer them since they will be on the counter. I wouldn't want them cleaning with yummy cookies staring at them and unable to have one lol.

  • I tip.  The service costs me $50 (my place is really small) and I add $10 to the top.  It's owned by one lady and she has helpers.

  • While we are on this topic, would anyone mind sharing what they pay and how often they have someone come?

Me and DH are buying a new home and it's 2500 square feet.  I am an OCD clean freak, and already told DH I would really love someone to come maybe even once a month to do all the deep cleaning stuff.  Just to sort of "take the edge off."  Just curious if anyone else does this and how much they pay.

    Sorry to hijack the thread!

Oh, and I agree with everyone else.  I would tip if it was a company, but not if it was private.
