UGH I am boiling here. We visited out of town friends last weekend whose son had just had HFM. It was his 5th day, and he hadn't had a fever for 3 days and her Pedi assured her he wasn't contagious.
Well, this morning LO comes down with a 102.5 temp.
We won't know for sure if it's HFM for another few days, but I am just SO aggravated because I looked up the contagion period myself and it plainly says you are still contagious within 1 week of having symptoms regardless of having a fever.
Her pedi also told her it "wasn't really that contagious." WTH?! Yes it is!
I am KICKING myself for just listening to her and not doing my own research. On top of everything DH is going out of town for 10 days, leaving Saturday, so I will have to deal with this by myself.
Oh man, I am so hoping it's not HFM! My friends' son was miserable!

Re: I am so mad re: HFM
ooh, that stinks! Even if that boy didn't have a fever, if your LOs had skin or saliva contact on any infected area, that would be enough to transfer it, I think.
I hope your LO doesn't get it!
Hopefully the fever is just a weird coincidence.
Is it possible your friend wasn't completely truthful with you because she wanted you guys to visit? HFM is very contagious, I can't believe a dr would tell her it wasn't.
I'm so sorry though! It's the pits. FX that it's just a random fever!
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
I really do believe her that her Pedi said that - her Pedi has said some other things that have made me think she needs to switch Drs. They live in a small town though and they don't have many options.
Anyway LO has started drooling like crazy and won't eat anything (she points to the food and says "hot"), so I am really thnking it's HFM.
I am so mad at myself for not taking 5 minutes to research the contagious period. ARGH!
I was also going to say this after reading more of the replies. On another off-board I'm on, there's been a few conversations about doctors saying it's not contagious after the fever is gone. But that just doesn't make sense b/c the sores are contagious too.
Whaaa? Whoops....sorry Charlie's daycare. We sent him back two days after his fever was gone round the clock because the pedi said it wasn't contagious.
The things you learn.
Either way, I'm sorry. HFM blows and I really hope thats not what it is!!
