Re: Is it "soda" or "pop"

  • Well when I was growing up in Indiana we would call it "pop". According to my husband when I moved to New York he says it's called "soda". So in reality I have no idea which is the correct way to say it. I know in other parts people call it something else.

  • Soda. I hate the term pop. Tonic is another term used around here, but not really by our generation. I am from Boston.

  • Now that I live in Los Angeles its Soda. Funny story, when I just moved here from WA we went to the movies and i went to buy some soda well when I asked the lady for a large pop she gave me large popcorn! I laughed and told her politely I actually meant a soda :)

  • In Los Angeles it's SODA but the trend is to only drink Mexican versions (mexican coke, mexican pepsi, ext....) because they are made with cane sugar.

  • Pop. I HATE when people call it soda. Soda is carbonated water (no flavor).  I am in NE Ohio.

  • Pretty much everything is Coke.  When you go to a restaurant don't be surprised if you are asked "What kind of Coke would you like?"

     And I'm from Georgia.

  • Soda. I'm from CA.

In GA, the people with southern accents call it "coke".

Pop seems to be a Midwestern thing.

    hahha that's funny!

Im from WA and I've always called it soda. My mil is weird and the last time I was with her she asked me if I wanted a soda.. And then a few minutes called it pop. She said she didn't know what to call it .. She's always lived in thr pacific  northwest.

And i don't know anyone who refers to baking soda as simply soda. My sil bakes a lot.. I think I'll txt her and ask her what kind of soda she uses.. Shell probably need me to clarify hahha.

Haha! Well I think that would okay! ;) She would order a "sodie" and as a teenager I was mortified. It takes a lot to embarrass me though now-a-days!

  • In Michigan where I grew up it was pop.  Here in California it is soda.  I say soda now only because if you call it pop nobody knows what you are asking for.

We were at the zoo for my birthday last year with DD and my parents.  My parents still live in MI and call it pop.  We were getting lunch through a buffet type thing and when you paid you picked up the drink cups.  My mom asked for a medium pop.  The cashier just looked blankly at her and did nothing.  It was like he had no idea  what she said and could not connect the dots.  So instead of asking, he just did nothing.  I quickly said we would like a medium soda and he handed over the cup immediatley... True story.

  • It was "pop" until I got to college and everyone called it "soda".  I thought that sounded klassy and it rubbed off on me.

    So "soda" :)
