It keeps them at a better incline & it's much more snug and confined. I've heard rave reviews of it. I've also heard some awful stories of weaning out of it.
I plan to use this but only temporary because I prefer something smaller for them to sleep in as a newborn. I am STM and used a bassinet with my first. If I still had the bassinet I would use that over this sleeper but I don't so for me it makes sense financially since it's cheaper than purchasing another bassinet. I would not replace this sleeper for a pnp though. There are so many uses for a pnp, such as play area when they learn to crawl, diaper changing (if your pnp comes with it), etc. I personally plan to use the Rock n Play Sleeper for the first 3 or 4 months exclusively for the baby to sleep in then will transition him to the bassinett within the pnp until about 6 months and then a crib.
Edit: I do want to add that I was able to adjust the legs of my bassinet, which helped keep our baby at an incline when she slept which you cannot do with a pnp but I still would get both if you could.
The reviews are amazing, however you have to be extra careful for the ?flat head? I love that it too is portable. I love the idea of the PnP, just not sure if I would actually use it once older and as a play yard. I am trying to justify the money.
I have a rock 'n play that I plan on using for the first 3-4 months, or until little guy gets too big. I don't know if I want a pack n play, but everyone keeps saying I'll use it. Maybe for travel (which we do A LOT), but I won't be dragging that thing on any plane, that's for sure! I guess I'll get one when I need one - definitely not buying it new!
It's actually pretty sturdy. We used a PNP for sleeping at night, but the RNP was great because it was so portable I could move her from room to room and know she was safe. We did have slight flat head issues, but I don't think it wouldn't been any better in any other kind of seat.

Hi ladies - I'm visiting from the January board. I like to look at the Nov/Dec boards on Wednesdays for the HDBD posts. It gives me something to look forward to.
Anyway, I saw this thread and deciding to jump in. I'm a FTM, so I don't have any firsthand experience with the RNP. However, I've heard great things about it from friends. I planned on getting one myself. Well, I was at Target yesterday and there were about 10 RNP's on sale for $25! I bought a baby girl one (I'm just sure this little one is a girl) and actually plan on going back to get the boy one tomorrow just in case. I'm in AZ, so I'm not sure they're on sale everywhere, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. Just thought I'd share.
Also, your bumps are looking fabulous!

To me they are completely different items. We used the rock n play for sleeping at night when DD was a newborn. I use the pack n play for travel when we aren't going to have a crib. We probably started using that around 4-5 months.

I should also mention that the RnP was AMAZING! It was the only thing that DD would sleep in. My FIL built a beautiful cradle for her and she haaaaated it. Before I got the RnP, she slept on my chest...for 3 weeks. ugh!
I bought one for my best friend because I had heard so many great things about it. She thought it was cute but that she wouldn't use it much. Turns out it was the only thing her LO would sleep in for the first month! Since her LO has out grown it she is bringing it down when my LO gets here! Ha ha ha I bought my own baby gift I'm glad we both had little girls so we can just reuse this!
The RnP was the best gift we received for DS! Due to having reflux, it was the only place he would sleep for the first few months. Once he was able to roll over at 4 months, we easily transitioned him to his crib where he prefered to sleep on his belly. He napped in the RnP until he outgrew it. It was great for taking along with us during the day because he would nap in it so easily. He never had problems with his head getting flat.
Now we use the PnP for travel but he is much more resistant to it. I think it's because it 'moves' a little. We definitely got much more use out of the RnP.
I am definitely getting one... Although, I just bought one from Target that was on clearance, and it had even more reviews of it causing flathead (although, I am aware that a crib, bassinet, etc. can also cause this... but it still made me paranoid..) because of the hard plastic shell it has on it.. So I am HOPING to return it for a better one.

It is small like a bassinet, so can easily go beside your bed for those first few nights/months. Can be carried one handed from room to room. Doesn't take a ton of space in the trunk for travel. Easy to clean. Inexpensive. Love it!
Love love love the rnp!! dS slept in it at night until 5 months and the napped in it until almost a year old. It really was one of the best things i bought!

I used the RnP with DS and we LOVED it. He did have a bit of a flat head in back for a while (total round pumpkin head now though), so I am thinking I will get one of these to put in it this time: https://www.amazon.com/Boppy-Noggin-Support-Brown-Wheels/dp/B001O9F6M8/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=149QPPBMJLBH2&coliid=I2MVGRXCEQ8UMP
