Ugh DH

He got 12 -yes 12!- hours of sleep last night except for 1 feeding. All he did was wake up, feed her, put her in the bouncer & came to bed. It was about 10pm & he goes, "I'm setting my alarm for 6am but wake me before if you need me." Yeah. Even when he was on leave & I'd ask him to get up with her (so I could sleep) he'd be all like, "I don't want to." & then take forever to get out of bed.

So I heard her making noises & went in there. She was still wide awake (& being all sweet smiling like crazy) & seemed like she needed a diaper change. I asked DH if he had changed it & snapped at me for asking. Which of course he hadn't.

Oh I tell ya! Heck, I think I got maybe 5 hours of sleep over the course of late last night & early this morning. Which of course, ya know, those 5 hours were broken up because of baby needing to eat. I seriously doubt he could last being a SAHD, which is what he wants to do. Who knows what it's gonna be like when I go back to work in September & we're both working! :/

Re: Ugh DH

  • Hang in there, it will get better. She's start sleeping longer stretches hopefully. Do you have a night time routine? It's helped us out so much to do a nightly bath. DD now knows, bath around 8, swaddled and then she falls right to sleep after her bottle. I remember those first few weeks, I was so sleep deprived and angry at DH all the time because I was cranky plus he was not waking up at night since I bf and wasn't pumping yet. Now that we have a routine down life is much easier. I did have to talk to my husband about what things I need his help with like dinner, dishes and laundry and ever since we had that talk he is a new man. Good luck!

Let him take care of her by himself for an evening or and afternoon and he will see how much you do.  I met friends for 1.5 hours when she was 4 wks old and DH was so glad to see me when I came home...and she slept for an hour of it.  Now he has her 1 evening a week so I can have a mommy night out and he sees how crazy it can be.  I think it is good for him and her, and me to have a little time out.

  • I've thought about a routine. But her sleeping is so unpredictable.

Normally when he does take care of her (which is normally when he gets home & I sleep) she ends up sleeping the whole time he's up with her. He lucks out that way.

  • With the nightly routine it will help. We havebeen doing avas sinxe she was 3 weeks old. Now she waits for it. Kids crave that routine. Next week we will start her afternoon naps routines. We need this down before i go back to work. Good luck
