We got back from an 8 day vacation from the beach Saturday, ever since then DS will not sleep in his room alone. We had him in the pack in play on vacay at night and then if he woke up and wouldn't go back down i brought him in bed with us since i didn't have a rocker to rock him in. I have never done this before and i'm afraid i have created a monster.
LO is now waking multiple times a night and crying for me to come rescue him. He is up for 1-2 hours every time. I haven't brought him into bed since we got home. I'm afraid i'm gonna have to do CIO again but he has had a tooth coming in for weeks so i'm not sure if this is the right time for that either.
Sorry for rambling, i'm just going crazy and sleep deprived. Any idea's?
Re: Vacation ruined LO's sleep :(
You probably will have to do CIO again. Vacation always messes up sleep, but putting him into bed with you that often probably created a habit you have to break.
Next time you're without a rocker, try rocking him while you sit down. You just rock your upper body (side to side or front to back) while you hold him in your arms. I've done this numerous times with DS, from when he was 7 pounds to now when he's nearly 23. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it literally works anywhere. I also did this on vacation and would rock him while I sat in the bed with my back against the headboard. It often makes it easier to put a pillow under him to take most of his weight. BTW, if you tighten your abs while you do it, you can get a decent abdominal workout at the same time.
The exact same situation happened to us last week. On vacation he would wake between 10 and 12 and I would just bring him to bed with us because he wouldn't go back down in the PNP. We did let him CIO again when we got home. We also went right back to our regular bedtime routine instead of the messed up one we had on vacation. The longest he cried was 20 minutes and after 3 nights, he was back to normal with just one waking for a feeding. FWIW on vacation sometimes he was up 4 times per night and required actually sleeping on top of me to go back to sleep.
It doesn't sound like co-sleeping is something you're willing to do at home (I'm not). So I would just let him CIO.
Thanks so much! CIO it is. I've been waiting to do it until this tooth comes in but it is seriously taking forever! He's not waking up screaming in pain so i think it's just that he wants me to come get him. If his tooth doesn't come in this week i will suck it up and start next week. Did you girls do the check in's with your LO's while sleep training?
We don't do check-ins, but the longest my LO has ever CIO was 35 minutes and that was during the first day of sleep training. Check-ins make it worse for LO.
If you have already sleep trained with CIO, this is most likely not going to be nearly as bad. Like I said, the longest my kiddo cried was 20 minutes on our first night back. After that it was like less than 5 or nothing at all.
