FTM Baby Wearing...

I have a Moby and have tried it twice, but Madelyn hated it- especially in the cradle type position.  She was OK for about two minutes in the upright, in between the boobs position with the fabric pulled up behind her head for support, but then had a fit.

Is she just too little to start wearing?  She is about 7 1/2 lbs...

Do I need to just keep trying until she gets used to it?  I also have an Ergo, but not the infant insert.  Perhaps I should get the Heart2Heart and see if she likes that better?  I really want to wear her, but don't want her to be uncomfortable.

Re: FTM Baby Wearing...

  • Try moving around when she's in it. Put her in right before a nap, but before she's super tired and then walk/bounce/sway and she may snuggle in and fall asleep. My babies didn't like being worn when they were awake because they were just active little people. My daughter didn't like the Moby hardly ever and preferred the ring sling. My son loved the Moby. So there are individual preferences.

  • I wasn't a fan of the moby.  It was too stretchy for me.  I plan to buy a woven wrap for this LO (and any future LOs) but you could also try a ring sling.  Those are the only carries I am familiar with since I didn't BW a lot with DD.  Hopefully someone else can be more helpful.

  • Exactly what PP said - put her in when she's eaten and is sleeping, and then go for a walk or walk/rock her around the house. My kids always liked lots of singing at that stage, too. Just keep trying! My older son took awhile to get used to babywearing, but my younger son took to it quite quickly. hth

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • Mine took to the Moby right away, but the ring sling was a gradual process for a few weeks. Ditto the advice about starting with a happy baby and then keep moving. My LO always zonked out in less than 5 minutes when being worn as a newborn.

  • I like the Moby, but I didn't start using with DD until she was nearly 2 months old.  She had no problems with it at that age.  I don't have any problems with the stretchiness and DD is 4 months.  I would keep trying and do what PP suggested.

  • If you're using a Moby I would wait until she's a little older, 3 months or so. I think one week is too young to baby wear in any carrier IMO.

  • You can definitely wear a one week old baby. I loved my stretchy wrap at that age with an upright hold but lost the love by 3 months or so--she was big enough that it started to sag by then! I would try tying it a little differently (I like my stretchy TIGHT) or positioning her in it a little differently. Also I loved my RS with a heart to heart hold. Not a fan of the Ergo insert--I liked being able to feel her on me, and that is too thick for that.

     Good luck.
