Hi Ladies!
I have a good friend who just delivered her baby at 34 weeks. He is in the NICU and she was just discharged from the hospital yesterday. Her baby shower was supposed to be last weekend, but it was canceled due to the unexpected birth.
She doesn't have much right now and I know she probably needs things, but I don't know what would be the most helpful to her. Any suggestions? I know she's pumping and bringing her milk to the hospital. She's borrowing a pump at the moment.
She had a vaginal birth if that matters, too. Thank you for all of your insight!
Re: Question from a Nov. '11 Mama
I agree with PPs, driving to and from the NICU eats up a lot of gas and money for food and such. You could always ask her if there are any items that she needs right now, like clothing or immediate things when LO comes home, like diapers or a place to sleep. We had very little when my DS was born (my shower was held the next weekend) and my friends and family asked my right away what were the important things I needed, and were generous at our shower. I hope all goes well for your friend, it's nice of you to think of things to help her:)
Thanks for the input, ladies! Her husband did mention how they have already spent hundreds of dollars on hospital parking fees. Some cash towards that would probably be useful. I hadn't thought of that.
I think I'll also get her some breastfeeding/pumping essentials and some things to cheer her up. She's pretty down in the dumps right now...emotions from giving birth and going home without your baby have to be intensely hard.
