How's housework going for you?

I'm struggling.

I try not to be too hard on myself because I'm transitioning jobs right now, which means I'm working 2 part time jobs, and taking care of Andy, and trying to keep up on the house.  Sometimes I just don't understand how 2 adults and a baby can make such a mess!  DH helps too when he's not working, he cleaned the kitchen, and did all the laundry...now if I can get him to fold it!

How are things going for you?  Any tips or tricks?

Meh I just try to keep up with the daily mess.  I usually try to focus on one room at a time and really clean the whole thing.  Otherwise I will start things around the house and never finish them.  I also wear her a lot so I can clean with her on me.

  • DH and I are usually pretty OCD about keeping the house clean. You can definitely tell that priorities as far as housework goes have changed since we had DD. Our is still fairly kept together we just don't get to do it all out once like we use too. We use to clean the everything all at once kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc and now we just have sort of a rotation. When something is starting to look messy we try to tackle it if DD is cooperative. I'm really lucky because my DH had no problem cleaning and he will just start doing it if it needs to be done.

I am amazed how baby stuff has managed to explode all over my house. It is hard to keep all of her stuff organized! I think I am struggling with that more than keeping things clean...

  • I do the daily pickup and 1 room at a time thing. Sometimes its hard to even do that because B gets so clingy and throws a fit if I put him down. Thats the part I'm struggling with. I'm afraid hes going to be a hip baby. Sad
  • Since I SAH....its easy. I just try to keep up with it daily so there's never big messes. Can you both do a little each night?

  • We hired a housekeeper yesterday, if that tells you how our housekeeping is going :-).

What do you use? Ive tried the moby wrap, but my son HATES it.
  • We cloth diaper, and I'm doing great keeping up with diaper and regular laundry.  DH and I both hate washing dishes, so we're always behind on those.  The rest of the house is no better or worse than pre-baby.

  • I'm just working part time from home and I still can't keep up as much as I would like. My house is cleaner than when I worked full time and had no kid though. We have 3 dogs, a cat and dark hard wood floors so I have to sweep the whole house everyday, I should mop every day but I do about every other day. DS doesn't nap a lot so most of my cleaning is a little bit at a time. I haven't really been able to wear him because it hurts my back too much but when I did, I was able to clean a lot more. Oh, and my DH is super messy/lazy when it comes to house work and I feel bad that I have to nag him all the time, but I wouldn't nap him if he could just pick up after himself.

  • Our house is pretty clean. I do the cleaning because I'm home, but DH will also help me, which is awesome. We have a "cleaning schedule", so one week I clean the downstairs, and one week I clean the upstairs. Laundry is something we both do as well, but I always put it away.

  • DH does it all.

This is us, they are coming today.  I could keep the house clean, but I'd rather spend the few hours I have everynight with LO instead of cleaning.

  • We try pick up daily, and scrub everything down on the weekends. It helps that our house is only 1200 sq ft, so there isn't that much to clean.

  • We had a housecleaner when I was painfully pregnant and our house was up for sale.  I couldn't bend, so I couldn't clean tubs and stuff.  And my hiips were such that I couldn't vacuum.

But they don't straighten up.  That's the hard part, for me.  Now, if I straighten up, vacuuming/tubs/etc are super easy.

BAAHAHAHA!!! This place is a disaster area. My parents are coming in a week, so it will make us clean up, but I just feel like it's a mess. I'm good with laundry (especially since I cloth diaper) and the kitchen stays pretty clean, but everything else has gone to hell..

I feel like it will be better actually when we both start back to work. DH has started at band camp, so now I'm back to being alone with her which would be fine, but she's needy in a different way than when she was teeny tiny. Now she wants to stand or talk to me all the time, and I have to leave her at DC in a few weeks, so I don't want to put her down so I can clean. Cleaning can wait...she can't. Right now, I change her mostly downstairs, so there's a huge area of our lviing room that's consumed with CDs and diapering stuff. Once we start work again, most of her changes will be upstairs, so we'll lose the downstairs diaper area, which will be good.

We need to spend the weekend doing a good clean. I've been picking up around here, but it really needs a good scrub down. I know my mom will clean when she's here, so I need it to be semi-clean when she gets here so I don't feel bad

  • For a while there it was pretty terrible. Apparently my learning curve is slow. I'm just now figuring out ways to entertain her. We didn't have a bouncy seat and the swing is just too big to lug around the house. She is also very moody about the Moby.

Now that she is able to hold her head I usually put her in the high chair and put some toys infront of her on the tray and music on my phone. I get probably 20-30 minutes before she gets cranky. Then when she's sleeping and doesn't wake up if I leave the room I will do the quiet things.

  • On the surface my house is fairly clean... I pick up everyday, we do the dishes, sweep the floors BUT I haven't dusted in weeks and it is really starting to build up. I honestly can't devote daytime hours to it since Ari isn't a huge napper (30 minutes tops at a time) and at night I am too tired and want to spend time with my Dh.

Hopefully we can work out a weekend schedule once we have some time to actually sit down and figure it out.

  • Housework?  Hmmm....I vaguely remember cleaning before I had two children.  Not so much these days.  But I decided when DD was born that I would give myself 3-4 months before I got worried about getting back into a housework routine.  I am making sure everything is clean by this weekend because MIL is staying here with DS while DH and I go to a wedding.  We leave for vacation at the end of July and when we return I plan on getting back on my schedule.

    Monday:  Bathrooms

    Tuesday:   Dust/Vacuum

Wed: Kitchen (microwave, stove burners, wipe down fridge and cabinets), Mop entry way

    Thurs: Sheets/towels laundry

    Fri:  Clothes laundry

    Sat:  Special projects

I'll spend 20 minutes picking up each day which is enough time to put away a day's worth of mess in our small house.  I also tend to pick up toys during nap time, even though they'll come back out again.  It makes the afternoon/evening mess more manageable.  I sweep, wipe down counters and the high chair every night after dinner.

I SAH and am OCD about my home. It's actually in shambles right now but typically is very clean. I do sacrifice an hour or two of sleep at night to keep up but my mind would race otherwise. With that said, there is no way I could reasonably keep up with it if I was working. In finishing out my final 3 graduate classes this fall and I'm sure things will get crazy. Don't be too hard ob yourself... If thibgs don't get done all the time it's NBD!

  • it's going. We have a cleaning crew every other week that does the deep cleaning for the areas that need it. I keep everything running and I am OCD about not having dirty dishes in the sink ever. I run laundry through during the week and then H and I will have a laundry folding pow-wow on the weekend. I really need to declutter and start cycling toys around. The toys everywhere is what really gets on my nerves.

  • Sore subject.

I use to be really on top of it and kinda OCD before DS1.  After DS1 it was not bad and we kept on top of it, I had more free time back then.

NOW, with 2 little ones and both of us working full time (making it worse is me working Saturdays).....forget about it.  I make sure that we keep up with laundry, surface bathroom cleaning, the sink is always clear, the counter and tables are always clear and the garbage is out.  Theer are toys and baby equipment everywhere (we have a small townhome).  I am not as good with washing our bed linens ( I use to be anal and change them weekly, now it's maybe every 2-3 weeksEmbarrassed, I still vacuum just about 1-1.5 weeks.  It is REALLY hard for me since I don't want to spend my small amount of free time with the boys cleaning.  We kinda do things here and there and it somehow, somewhat is decent

  • I really think I might have PP OCD..I am crazy about the house all of a sudden.  When it is dirty I feel like I am drowning, its weird and I am trying to let it go and keep telling myself that I shouldn't worry about it so much.  But our house is little, like 900 square feet little, so I can get the house clean in about an hour. Moral of the story, I vacuum probably 3-4 times a week, do dishes daily, laundry every 2-3 days, and just general organizing/putting crap away daily. Oy, I am embarrassed to admit that.
  • I was going crazy. But I visited pinterest and got a cleaning schedule. I do a "zone" each day. Bedrooms and kids bathroom 1 day, kitchen another day, living room/dining room another day, and basement another day. Then I have 1 day for errands, and the weekend for play or yardwork. It's really saved a TON of sanity in my house. We're also looking into a cleaning lady though for every other week, deep cleans.

     Ditto

I haven't even gone back to work yet and the house is still a mess. I dread to think of what it will be like when I go back to work Monday.

I do the kitchen because it grosses me out when there are dirty dishes and stuff, but general clutter doesn't bother me enough to actually try. I could do more. Right now I'm on the bump while she plays on her mat. I COULD be wearing her and making a dent in the laundry pile or something but I don't feel like it. I'm tired just from being a 24/7 milk factory...

Maybe when she starts sleeping through the night.. Nah who am I kidding. The house will still be a mess, I'll just be in a better mood haha.

  • I've always done most of the cleaning on the weekend and I'm still doing that, besides dishes and straightening up here and there. We are both home all weekend and DH helps me clean but we can pass off LO to each other if he's fussy when we're cleaning. Some weeks are better than others, but it's not terrible, so I think that's a success. Lol.

  • I'm only going back to work two days a week but we are thinking of hiring a monthly housekeeper to do the deep cleaning.

  • I think my house is way cleaner than it was while I was pregnant. Each weekend I take a few hours to clean the whole house while LO is napping. It makes me feel better and if it doesn't get done it gives me anxiety. I'm a bit OCD about cleaning. During the week it's mostly spot cleaning and laundry. I work full time.
