I wanted to compost at my old house, however we had an issue with rats...ewww (lived on an island) and didn't want to encourage them to hang around...now that we have moved, I want to start. Any tips? Is there a certain type of composter you'd recommend? We live in a rural area, so have a decent sized piece of land... any websites you find useful?
Re: composting
I wish I could help, but my compost bin isn't doing too great. I got a sinple 4 sided black one from Sam's club last year. I'll admit I haven't been great at making sure it has the right ratio of green:brown matter. Try these sites, I think https://theecofriendlyfamily.com/ might have some info too.

To keep rodents out...we use a worm bin bench for food/kitchen scraps, and a big three-bin composter or our yard for all those greens and browns. Something like an off-the-ground tumbler would let you do both together.
