Have you ladies seen this? I certainly don't intend to become a CEO of any type, but I am planning on continuing to work after LO is born. I haven't told anyone in my work circle yet, but I have to say this article was encouraging to me:
I think it is so great that she made CEO at age 37. It sounds like she has been working all of her life to get to this point and it is awsome on Yahoo to hire.
However, I read that she was going to work during her three week maternity leave. I am sure she will have a lot of outside help with her baby/house. BUT I wish she would take her maternity leave without feeling like she has to work. 3 weeks isnt a long period of time and by her working during it, I feel like she is giving this impression that maternity leave isnt necessary and it is just "vacation". In the States, we still have a long way to go with maternity leave. I am all for working moms, but it is important that we have time to heal from giving birth and have time to bond with baby.

I totally agree. We aren't too progressive about maternity leave/rights at all, I feel...I'm already looking at my time away from work and I don't feel like 6 weeks post-baby is going to be enough...

That bothers me too. Women NEED that time, and it really sends the wrong message when the women at the top, who have power, won't take a bare minimum leave.

All of this. Her career is very impressive considering her age and I am thrilled that some companies are able to look past pregnancy when making a decision. We really have a long way to go when it comes to maternity leave in the U.S. I also don't necessarily like to hear about mom's working hard while on maternity leave. Most of my life I have been a workaholic and it definitely has had an impact on my relationship with my husband, I hate to see what their futures look like if their job really means that much to them. When I found out I was pregnant last fall, I left my job that averaged 70 hours in the office per week (not including e-mails and phone calls from home) because I knew I could not give my family what they deserve if I was working that much. There is nothing wrong with working mom's, but finding balance is very important.

I totally agree. I plan on taking 12 weeks and I already feel like it isn't going to be enough.I can't imagine having only a few weeks to be with my newborn and heal from delivery.
I'm a teacher and I worry about leaving my kids during the middle of the year, right before AIMS (state testing). While I don't want to think about work for even a second, I'm sure I'll be checking emails frequently. It's something I've worried about - I really hope I'm able to leave work behind. I also really worry about finding the proper balance once I do return to work and while teaching is a tough profession, I can't imagine how hard it would be as a CEO.
