Which bottle sterilizer do you recommend?

I am due with LO#2 in a few weeks. With LO#1, I never used a microwave bottle/nipple sterlilizer, but I would like to this time.  I use the Playtex drop-ins, so I wouldn't even need to sterilize the bottles that often.  Which sterilizer do you recommend?  Do you find that you can just give the nipples a really quick handwash and put them in the sterilizer and have them come out clean?  I boiled nipples way too often with LO#1 and am trying to find ways to make things easier this time around.

TIA!

  • I use the Avent microwave sterilizer for my Playtex vent-aire bottles and my medela breast pump parts and it works great! I can do my pump parts plus 3 bottles easily, 4 bottles if I consolidate things a bit. I like to put her Nuks in there too.

What size bottles are you putting in there? Will the 8 oz bottles fit?

  • I use the 6oz bottles. Looking at them in the sterilizer, they JUST fit, so I think 8 oz would be too tall (unless they are wider instead of taller?? Wider would fit.)

Do most people sterilize after the first few weeks? I EBF but I did work w/ DD1 and never sterilized her bottles. We use hand washed or ran them through the dishwasher. It seems like one more piece of junk that only  has one purpose to me.

This. Our pedi said just to put them through the dishwasher or hot soapy water will  do in a pinch.

  • We got one when our LO got thrush and I didn't want to boil bottles and pacifiers after every use. Microwaving it is so much easier!
