Re: birth certificates

  • We have to mail something off but I haven't done it yet.... but it said it takes like a month to get back on ours but I'm guessing it will vary by state.

You're in CO, right? I thought we took care of all this paperwork at the hospital, but stil haven't received anything. Did they give you forms to take home and complete?

  • Oh yeah, I should get on that.

  • You are in MA, right? You need To mail a request and a check for $15 (that gets you1 copy) and then they send it to you. I mailed mine to Boston city hall...i delivered at Beth Israel. I don't know if it differs based on where you deliver.

yeah, they gave us forms to complete and take home. We can also go down to somewhere in cherry creek and do it but I figured I would have to wait in line. I said something to DH about how we don't have it yet and he told me we had the paperwork for it, I was on a lot of pain meds at the hospital and that part was kinda fuzzy when they talked to us about it. When DS is done nursing I'll grab the paper to tell you the website they had to go to also, you just have to pay more to do it online.

  • We picked ours up a while ago because it is the same office that does dog license renewal, so we saved a trip.  It is the city clerk office where I live, and it cost $20 for a notarized copy.

  • We mailed in our registration for it.  I rememeber them telling me if I don't send it in within 3 months then I would have to go in to get it.  We sent it right before the 3mo mark and received in within a couple weeks of that.

With oldest girls I waited, then forgot, then had to order them to register them for Kindergarten.....and that was a huge pain and it was more expensive!  I highly recommend doing it sooner than later!

  • no form needed....Just write your child's name, birth date, and parents (your) full names. The check is made out to City of Boston. $15 for 1 copy, $27 for 2, or $39 for 3 copies. Address is: Boston City Hall, Registry of Births Room 213, 1 City Hall Square, Boston 02201. Their phone is 617-635-4177. I think you can go in person, as well.

oh, and if you do it via mail you need to include a self addressed and stamped envelope.

I had to send in a form that I got in the mail to get his birth certificate. I got it a few weeks later through mail.

  • I'm OCD so I went right when he turned a month old (to town hall) and paid my fee and got it rather quickly.  They did not even check my IDIndifferent.  Since LO was born in my car, the birth location is a street address, ha!!!!!!!  Easy Peasy.

  • Check your state's vital records website, you might be able to fill out the form and pay online, or if nothing else print out the form to mail in. We haven't gotten dd's yet, but they did give us the forms in the hospital.

  • I have to go to the health service department of my county and then pay $35 for a copy.

I am kinda cranky over it...

I think I should get at least the first copy for free.  You know, having gone through the trouble of carrying and delivering the child.  I deserve to get the proof of my efforts 'on the house'. (Proof other than the actual child, of course...)

  • UH, I forgot until JUST THIS SECOND that I never sent for it.  I also lost her social security card (actually, DH did but won't admit it).  I'm not looking forward to replacing that even though I WORK AT SOCIAL SECURITY!

  • I'm also Mass. I needed an official birth certificate to take her to Canada (by land) when we go on vacation next week. I mailed a form and $26 (I think) to the Registry of Official Records in Dorcester and they mailed one back to me in a couple weeks. Easy, peasy.

Here is a couple options for you:

  • everything was done for us at the hospital and we had ss within 2 weeks, and his BC within I would say 4..

  • Yes, we got DD's. Actually we got something in the mail, asking if everything was correct and if it was to mail back a check and SASE and they would mail out the certificate.

  • I still haven't gotten it yet.  DH's ex used to work for vital statistics and her name would have been on Pilar's birth cert if she hadn't changed jobs.  She suggested that I go in the office and get it in hand.  That way if there are any problems they can change it right then.  I hate bureaucracy so I have avoided it.  I guess I should go in soon.
